Hi All
I am currently looking at purchasing either a 3.0 Diesel Auto Patrol or a DID Pajero. Can anyone give me an idea of the fuel consumption and power of the Patrol towing a caravan. I tow a 20ft full van that weighs about 1950kg fully loaded. Also what sort of fuel economy are the patrols getting around town.
Thanks Jeff

Hi there. My first reaction is to say I am surprised at an actual ATM of 1950kg for a 20ft caravan. For comparison, a new Jayco 20ft, according to their website, has a tare of about 1900 to 2000kg. I wonder if it is worth weighing the van again before you shell out the bickies for a tow vehicle?
I may
well be wrong, but your figures suggest that your van has a Tare weight of only 1500 kg or thereabouts.

In that case, I'm sorry to have raised a false concern. Our van is also an older, lighter van, which seems to make it a lot easier to find a suitable tow vehicle! Of course, we'll have great difficulty as and when we have to replace the van. Have fun.

Although I love my 3.0lt Patrol auto I would not recommend it to anybody if they are buying it solely as a tow vehicle. I use it to tow my camper which weighs about 1200kg. fully loaded up, it does not do it easily.
My mate owns a new diesel Pajero and uses it to tow a horse float and he is very pleased with it.
