Shows that I have a bit of time on my hands I am giving the troopy a very good clean up, including touching up the paint work etc and I keep seeing what looks like a small black radiator in front of the main radiator.
Since I replaced the main radiator last month I have been meaning to find out what it is and now have the time hence this post.
Can anyone tell me what it is?

Take the front grill off . There are 2 screws at the top and two screws beside each headlight . Then get your hand in behind the grill and squeeze the 2 clips together behind the toyota logo and pull the grill away . Get a garden hose and get all the junk out from in between the fins . Not too much pressure because you do not want to bend the fins over .

On the subject of the aircon condenser has anyone considered what advantage there might be as far as letting the poor overworked cooling system of the average 4by get first bite at the airflow rather than having to put up with pre warmed air from the aformentioned condenser? Not to mention the restricted airflow.
I have seen the condenser mounted on the roof with its own 12v fan.

My thoughts exactly but when you put things on the roof it pushes the fuel consumption up.
Maybe a nice streamlined unit would be a win win, something shaped like a round bulge rather than a box with an angled off corner.
I remember when it was common to see 45 series landcruisers with the roof mounted condenser.

Well, if its much smaller than the main radiator my guess is it might be an oil cooler.
The Aicon condensor is thinner but of the same size as the radiator on my elderly troopy.

Thanks for the replys fellas,,,,, I'll take the grill off and give it a bit of a hose this morning.
Although they may have give it a clean when they put the new radiator in,,, but I' ll give it a clean just to be on the safe side.
The weather is terrible up here its in the mid 20's every day. LOL
