It might just be a WA thing but in the last few weekends....everytime I see a a V8 TDI Landcruiser at the lights...they all seem to think they are 18 and have to drag every off in a cloud of black smoke. Sad thing is you catch them 30 seconds later when they are sitting 10km under the speed limit or at the next set of lights.

You might think it is a company vehicle being driven by a young "non" owner but alas it is not.... they are all well and truly grey and most have a very embarrassed wife sitting beside them when we all arrive at the next set of lights.

Hey Im sure its fun dragging everyone off at the lights but c'mon..... If the 4WD fraternity doesnt have enough bad press with our gass-guzzling, tree eating pollution machines without this new display of ignorance from those that should know better.

Oh well I guess we have nothing to complain about the next time Scruby or the tree huggers are on Today Tonight whining about 4wds??

All the Best

Matt.

My wife keeps telling me how many youngsters she's leaving behind at the lights.

I'll give her a thorough talking to....

I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy

It used to be non-4WDers who tarred all 4WDers with the same brush - now its starting from within and getting down to models. In future I will make sure I don't stay under the limit ;)

Thats the spirit Captain - if you go fast enough , they won't catch you sitting at the next set of lights.

Exactly my point Captain.

Lets not give the buggars any more ammo than they already have, right or wrong.

I quite happily defend my 4WD as being economical in comparison to many 2WDs on the road. Despite the claims of the green side that ALL 4WDs are gas guzzlers.

Drag racing in a 3000kg plus vehicle can not be defended as responsible everyday driving in the green eyes now, can it.

I think you missed the point.

Ahh well each to their own, but we do bring some of the bad press by our behaviour sometimes so lets just say stuff it and not be proactive hey?

Matt, we are all 4WDers and to call ALL V8 TD drivers hoons is the same thing that the "greenies" do when they call ALL 4WDers bush bashers.

Why you want to single out a specific vehicle type beats me, I have seen all types of 4WD's take off fast and it is across the board, from clapped out 20 year old asthmatic diesels right thru to the new breed of factory turbo V8's.

I am sure ALL of us can honestly say that at one stage or another we have given in to the urge to use the right foot a bit more than necessary. But to say "...they all seem to think they are 18 and have to drag every off in a cloud of black smoke..." well, you have now fallen into the trap of divide and conquer.

Interesting that you have a brochure pic of the V8 TD troopy in your profile - perhaps you simply are looking at the V8 TD more than other 4WD's?

Cheers

Captain

Captain- I never called all V8TDi drivers hoons and there is no Troopie in my profile.

It is a Wagon that someone asked what they were and I posted to show one.

I suggest you read it more carefully before posting.

My point is that we dont need any more bad press and people drag racing in 4WDs do ecactly that. Im sure you DO understand.

You can just imagine a little old lady in a Hyundai Excel having a 4WD (ANY) dragging off at the lights...next thing she will be doing is penning a letter to her local member of parliment. Here we go another opportunity for anti 4WDrivers to bash our love.

So rather than argue semantics how about just open your eyes while you are driving around and I bet you wil see it for yourself.

All the best

Matt.

Why would they bother, my 3ltr 4cyl Rodeo will still leave them in my dust :-).

Never too old for a 0 - 60 drag :-)

I suppose you could say at least they are not holding anyone up. Cheers tony

Hi Matt,

Many years ago, when I was younger, I used to get frustrated sitting at the lights behind some 'old' grey nomads, their diesel engines clattering, then when the lights turned green, they moved off as quickly as if they were attempting to cross the Amazon in flood!

I know better now, as I am one of them, I do try to keep up with the rest of the traffic, but the Jack won't drag off much of anything.

Can't keep everyone happy I guess.

For goodness sake, don't defect to the Scruby camp, there's enough of them as it is!

Cheers, Dave
