Hi there new to the forums here .Just recently ordered a Jayco swan about 5 months ago and picked it up about a month ago was proud as punch was driving it back home and pulled over after 30 k's as directed to check the wheel nut tension so i opened the boot of the camper and unclipped the wheel brace started to tighten the nuts and split the side out of the wheel brace, I thought oh
well one of those things so i jumped back in the car with a smile on my face got it home and started to set it up in my back yard. I unclipped the lid pulled the winder out and began to unlock the winder door and the lock fell out of it...again thought oh
well one of those things so anyway wound the camper up went in to set up the door and one of the screws and wing nuts that lock the door fell out on the floor called jayco they were great with their service were happy to fix the problems when i bought it in for its first 1000k service.Anyway got all packed up went over to
Lakes Entrance for 4 days to test it out before trekking off onto my 2 week adventure to Queensland .Got to the caravan
park and began to unpack and noticed that across the side where the door is the roof had been rubbing up against the door and took all the paint off the top of it and began to grind out the top cap that covers the door .while i was there i was looking up at the ceiling and noticed that you could see where the cords were running to all 3 of the lights and a few other small problems.Again called Jayco were happy to help with the problems one of my concerns though is the ceiling the service guy said they would just double up the panels on the ceiling to cover up the cords u could see, anyway got it in for its first service after the trip fixed all the small problems and would deal with the roof when i got back from QLD .Made it to QLD safe and sound wish i could say the same bout all the stuff i my fridge it was spread all over the floor all the food had to be thrown was less than happy could say as the lock on the fridge had jammed open, unpacked and noticed that the bed tracks had started to grind against themselves and where the beds pull out next to the rollers had all been gouged from the screws on the bottom of the beds.Am getting pretty annoyed now i know its entry level to caravanning etc but i still paid bloody good money for this thing just wondered if anyone else has had any similar problems with the 2009 model and should i be narky about it or am i just being real picky..thanx

Well mate, I learnt my lesson you get what you pay for!
I’ve had two of these mongrel Jayco things and their nothing but paper crap and trouble as far as I’m concerned.
I finally bit the bullet and purchase a Goldstream camper trailer. A lot more money, but the difference is outstanding. Not one problem over Gibba or cross country travel in the bush.
We gave the thing a fair fogging which it’s not designed for, but it came up trumps every time. Not a thing came out of place, but we did get a bit of dust in one section.
I’ll stick to proven product, such as Goldstream, Engel, Honda and other reliable products in the bush. The money you think you’re going to save inevitably costs more in the long run.
Regards
Kim

Seems to be the way that Jayco dealers do business. When I bought a new camper in 2000 it was constantly back at the dealer's for warranty work. They were always happy to do it - almost gave the impression that the warranty work pays more than they get out of the sale of the camper. AND, bear in mind that
mine was bought off the showroom floor - it was their display model!!! Wait until you break something that they don't have in stock. You will wait months for the factory to send it. We waited three months for a stove lid and then they delivered the wrong one. The best experience was when I wanted to buy a spare set of bearings before we took off on a big trip. Despite the fact that they had sold it, the dealer required me to remove the existing bearings (both inner and outer) to check the serial numbers so they could tell if they had used ford or holden ones. The factory didn't have any record of that little fact. Good luck!!!

hi aaxxll
sounds like you are getting more than your fair share of problems. also sounds like you may have a lemon on your hands - but hope not for your sake.
i have bought my share of new vehicles and always been lucky and no problems. but as you hear more and more people complain about faulty workmanship in new models of cars, vans etc, its one of the reasons i prefer to buy near new rather than brand new now. got to agree there is nothing like the feeling of driving away in or with that brand new item but there is also something to be said for others having to go through the pain of warranty issues rather than you. i suppose you could always pick up a lemon 2nd-hand when an owner has had enough and decided to dump it on the 2nd-hand market, but the cost factor to your pocket is much lower especially taking into account the depreciation factor, and i think the risk factor in 2nd-hand vans would be lower to. (guess someone here will tell me i am wrong about the risk factor)
in regards to KIM above, i own a jayco swan and never had dust issues. may have been a problem for the first owner, not sure. just know its no drama for me. dont feel as though i am the lucky jayco owner to get the one in a million good one. when a company sells as many products as jayco does in this instance, you will hear about problems.
you would like to think that with volume sales comes better quality but i am afraid that isnt right. i built new homes for more than 10 years for a major
sydney builder tha has an excellent reputation, and i can assure you its not his name that guarantees a good product (home in this case), its the guy responsible for overseeing the build process and quality. i have seen his poorly built products built by some of the others there - that have nothing to do with the builders name, his long industry history, or even the price of the product - it is just simply lazy people not prepared to do what a reasonable person would expect, and they would be the first to complain when it happens to them.
i hope you get on top of the issues you have with your jayco, and can get out there and enjoy it hassle free just like what you were hoping to do. jump on the jayco and caravan forums and see if you can get any quality unbiased advice on what to look out for in the current model. i think you would need to give your particular camper a good going over prior to the warranty expiring in case you have other issues. maybe even worth your while buying a copy of the Trevor Eastmans camper repair and service guide for your own information. its very detailed. good luck....

I reckon you've been a bit stiff.
Beteween ourselves and three other couples we
camp with we've had six Jayco's built between 1999 and 2008. All have been fine. The odd warranty issue or two but bugger all really.
Cheers,
Jim.

Hey look we had a great time away in it family enjoyed it ...like they say easy to tow easy to stow :p....can sit nicely on the speed limit while towing i drive a BF XR6 and barely know its behind me thought about a caravan but the extra fuel consumption kinda kills the cheap weekend or week away. I think the idea is great and the features and looks are great compared to other makes just really disapointed with the quality, even after i get these things sorted i think it will only be a matter of time before something breaks.lol i was looking at the expanda while i was in jayco dropping my camper off for a service and dont think they really have a whole lot more to offer than my Swan really still sleeping next to canvas ..lol... the guy in Jayco called it a glorified tent didnt really make me laugh at the time but guess he wasnt far from right....hopefully i get these issues sorted quickly so i can plan my next trip .Spoke to them on the phone today and the warranty guy said some parts could take up to 6-7 weeks to get in...:-( guess ill just have to wait and see how it all goes

We Bought a new Jayco pop top in 2007, when we got home from picking it up the bed box that the mattress sits on had colapsed, had the brackets screwed to the frame but not the wall. upon closer inspection lots of screws around the place were missing. i nearly used 100 extra screws in it!!! but after fixing some crap crimps on some wiring and fixing a few odd ball things, 1 warranty claim on the front window lid that was replaced in 2 days it is now a brilliant van. just perservere with them, list all the problems and hit them with it and say you dont want it back until it's done. and yes the wheel braces are Chit !!!
