99 GU Feedback

Have a 1999 GU Nissan Patrol,2.8 ltr desiel intercool Turbo. Goes ok on the flat, but looses power on inclines. Any suggestions as to what the problem could be ? Am at my wits end.

Manual trans, I presume?
Are you trying to hold too high a gear (and lettin' the revs drop) on the inclines?

The 2.8 lt engine is by no means a powerhouse, but they can 'punch above their weight' while 'on boost' (above 2000rpm), but let 'em get 'off boost', and they are totally out of their depth haulin' around a 2.5+ ton vehicle...

As soon as ya see anything that looks like a hill, change 'er back to 4th (or even 3rd on the steeper ones), and keep the revs up, keep that turbo on boost, and I think you'll find it a whole lot more agreeable;-)

Of course, if you're already doin' the above, then she may need a tune up......

agree with the above. old man had the 2.8 and it was a slug. but maintain her on boost and she chugs along nicely.

if you still dont like the way it performs, bigger exhaust from the dump will help considerably.
