Mike DID's thread (71230) prompted a question from Mainey about how to slipstream service packs and drivers into your XP disk to make installs quicker and easier.

I decided to write a How-to but then I found this on bleepingcomputer.com.

Why re-invent the wheel??

All

nLite is really easy to use and not only for slip streaming but if you wish to strip your XP install of all the junk and bloat (like language packs/unused services etc) - great for say netbooks like the original EEPC that only had a 4gb HDD - makes them boot superfast as well without all the junk

Cheers

Just a (devious) thought I had when reading the blurb about nLite, as I use a Dell laptop, with Win XP ME, can I use nLite to eliminate all the dell 'stuff' loaded onto the hard drive by the XP disk ?
It's now out of warranty anyway.

It's pretty good at removing stuff from the install disk, but it won't uninstall what's already loaded on the HD. You could create a custom install disk and then do a re-install.

Hi John,
good information there.
Wonder if it would be worth while putting up a Blog about this?
For further reference if people strike the same kinda problems.

Cheers

Or in the Members FileSwap area?
cause it would always be easier to find, Under a Computer trouble shooting folder or something.
Just a thought.

Unfortunately the file is too big for the FileSwap area.

Maybe David could set up a specific IT area where we could at least post links..
