There's so many country towns I go through that are ruined. Particulary those with historical value and left to die. It's a damn shame.
Here’s a bit of an update on the work we’ve been doing in Tooradin to provide you travellers with a bit of amenity and comfort.
For those who haven’t travelled down that way for a while, you’ll now find:
• A
supermarket and bottle
shop.
•
Bendigo Bank with ATM
• Pharmacy
• Four star restaurant
• Hair dressing saloon
• One of the best bakeries in the country
• Web site featuring a ‘real time tide chart clock’ and soon to be installed weather cam.
Work has now started on attracting a motel development to service the tourism trade and fishermen who wish to stay overnight.
There’s much more to do, including a medical centre.
So if you fellars are down that way, stop in for a break and take advantage of the new
services we’ve developed in rebuilding a country town.
Regards
Kim

That sounds great. What has caused these towns to become 'ruined' in the first place?
Not sure about the "Hair Dressing saloon" though....sounds like some sort of gay bar:-)

In answer to your first question I might leave that up to your experience and imagination.
As far as the second question is concerned, I don’t think you’ll find any of the local blokes with a limp wrist.
Might be a question you can raise in the Tooradin pub on a Friday night. Let me know how you get on.
LOL

Ok, I think I get your drift. Didn't know whether it was from social problems, or a flow-on effect from the drought, global financial crisis etc.
Oh, and I assumed that the saloon was the pub :-)

If the hair salon was in the saloon you could get some interesting haircuts and some eye shadow shade of black and blue.(LOL)

Re the 2nd question: Its always surprising what you find where you least expect it.
Last month I was in
Broken Hill. While looking for a 4WD mag in a local newsagent I passed a number of gay magazines. They can't all have been for the tourists!

Ben
They were there for the locals to see what goes on in the world around them.

Hi Kim
Extract from Badgers website
http://home.vicnet.net.au/~badger04/
Tooradin Caravan & Tourist
Park, Tooradin
Tooradin Station Road. Ph: 03 5998 3349.
We stayed at this
park because we were tired and did not want to drive any further. The caretaker was over friendly and stood around and talked to us constantly. The ablution facilities were very run down and the showers did not work - you had to run the cold tap first and then the hot. It took around 5 minutes to get the shower hot only to get in and it go hot/cold in a few minutes. The cost was $32.50/night, they charge for all children (we have a 2 and 4 year old) and have no facilities for children (ie. playground or flat roads to ride on). When we asked for a partial refund due to not being able to shower we were ignored. On the day we checked out they had locked the office and the caretaker was no where to be found. We were not able to make a formal complaint and no one wanted to assist us.
Date 01/2009.

I use this site as a guide to many parks and towns, they may not be correct (biased) but this is one of the checks I make before I use a
park. This is one thing you may need to investigate when trying to Rebuild a Country town

I agree with you completely. Whilst I don’t want to get into the politics of the town on a web site, I can assure you we are working on accommodation improvements.
The other matter we are turning our attention to is short term
parking for caravans in the retail strip.
Whist I only tow a camper trailer, there are some towns that don’t provide any
parking areas at all for visitors with larger rigs. This usually leads to the visitor moving on to the benefit of another town.
