Hi, I have a GU Nissan patrol that is dual fuel. Recently had a problem with the starter motor which had to be replaced but noticed that post new starter motor, the lights that illuminate the fuel selector switch no longer light up. There are 2 lights that normally come on. The first is orange which stays on if you are running on lpg and naturally goes out when switching across to petrol. The second light (blue) comes on only when you put the headlights on. The blue LED didn't stop working until a few days after the starter motor was installed. Switching between petrol/gas still appears to work - I just can't tell when I am running on which fuel type. I pulled out the little black unit behind the dash that attaches to this switch and it looks as if it is a sealed unit ie you can't open it to get to the LEDs. Does anyone have any thoughts on this problem. Perhaps I just need to replace the black unit. The part is NILES 06016. Thanks

May just be a blown fuse.

The only wiring diagram I have is for a ZD30 (diesel). It mentions a "Fuel Control Unit" fuse at #24 (next to the main battery) and is 7.5Amp.

There is another set of fuses under the dash - where your right knee would be.

Thanks Malcolm, I thought a blown fuse may be the case as well but couldn't find under the bonnet a fuse for the sub tank. I have checked the under dash fuses and these look okay. I will try and find a wiring diagram to see if there is a fuse specific to the sub tank - if you have a fuse in your diesel it would seem practical there should be one for petrol/gas. Linda

Malcolm, just one other thought though. Would the fuse in your diesel (FCU) regulate the fuel supply as opposed to any LEDs?

I'm no auto electrician but what I can see from the ZD30 diagram is fuse #24 goes back to a "Meter Control Unit" (incl Main fuel and sub tank gauges). A sub fuel tank control unit, sub fuel tank sender unit, sub fuel tank switch, main tank sender unit - which has a globe for "fuel sub tank". Of interest in this same area is a "thermal transmitter" - whatever that is - connected to the "Meter Control Unit" ( Yellow wire with red trace ).

Meerkat, take all this with a grain of salt. It may even be leading you up the proverbial garden path.
