Hi all.
Next week we will be staying at
Broken Hill for 5 or 6 days, the people I will be going with are not normally campers, so I don't want to make it to hard on them, and have decided to stay in caravan parks.
Question being: Which is a good caravan
park in BH?
Thanks in advance
Robert.

Hi Robert,
we have recently stayed in the big one near the
cemetery. Its a Top Tourist
park, not too sure of the name although could simply be the '
Broken Hill Caravan
Park'. You could look on the Top Tourist website for details.

10% off for members.
It has good clean amenities and we have used it twice in the last 12 months and had good experiences.
Cheers Heather

Agreed - a reliably consistent CP - grounds are quite flat too - amenities to a good standard - always our pick when up there.

Robert
Penrose Park at
Silverton is where we always stay. Way way cheaper than both the parks in town and much more friendly.
The atmosphere is more like
bush camping with facilities. You can have
camp fires and are not squeezed right next to other people. There are also showers and flush
toilets and they sell some basics in the small
shop there.
We have previously stayed in town and once we discovered
Penrose Park at
Silverton would never stay in town again.
Cheers

Couldn't agree more. Go to Silvetons "Penrose Park" Staying there gives you an "civilized" outback experience, whereas staying in BH gives you a CP experience in a big provincial city. Its only 15 mins back to BH and the Shopping Malls.

toilets, showers erc.

We agree with Heather escapesilv,
Sorry we can't remember the name either, but think its the biggest in BH. We were swaging on our trip and camped on their grassed area near the
cemetery fence. It was great.

Paul

There are parks at the
Adelaide end of town and the
Wilcannia end of town and they are both quite good. That said I like
Penrose park at
Silverton too, it is cheaper and more bush like.

Robert,
Check out
Visit Broken Hill. The staff at the
tourist info centre are excellent and helpful. I was in
Broken Hill last month (but stayed in a pub).
Penrose Park looked nice and also quiet - giving the feel of
bush camping, but with amenities. Not sure if your guests are used to caravan parks either, in which case they may find a quieter more open space like PP a bit more comfortable. The only draw back with
Penrose Park is that its a 20 min drive to BH. But,
Silverton is 2 secs away and there is a lovely wide
sandy creek bed (dry) that runs past
Penrose Park - a great place to sit and contemplate life, the universe and everything!
I was also told by a lady I met at
Silverton historic
cemetery that you can
camp cheaply at the council run show ground or race course (sorry, can't remember which) but it didn't have showers.
Good Luck1

Yes you can
camp at the
show grounds but the sites are right beside the highway and it is very busy with traffic (TRUCKS) and you would most likely be there on your own meaning no "neighbouring camps" to watch over your gear.
When I was living in BH I would take the family out to Penrose for the night
camping. Even though it was only 20km away it felt like you were
miles away and the kids loved getting out and feeding the animals and playing on the old loco.

Stayed at both B/H caravan parks the one at the
Adelaide end you
camp on pine bark and the one at the other end of town is grassed. The amenities at both are OK about the same.Next time we will try
Silverton.
Cheers Scoof. :-)

Thanks to all that forwarded their information,You have converted me! I think we will be heading to
Silverton Penrose Park. it suits me better than an overcrowded caravan
park in the middle of town.
Cheers and thanks again.
