Have done a search and many threads have been of a great benefit. Further question for you all though. We're looking at the Thetford 165 due to it's capacity. The space in our camper isn't huge and wondering if these units can be transported in their separate sections, or is that a nono? Many thanks in advance,
Ben

G'day Ben,
Yes they can. I have a Thetford 165 also. The unit wont separate unless the bottom section is completely closed which is how you want to transport it anyway. Provided it is all sealed up you shouldn't encounter any leaking. Depending on whether you use chemicals or odour-b-gone tablets will depend on any chemical smell wafting into clothes or canvas in your packed up camper. I use the odour-b-gone tablets and in my opinion they are brilliant. The other thing is, don't fill the flush
tank to full if you are separating the two tanks for transporting. Half full should be OK or empty.
Cheers.

We have transported ours both in the camper and the back of the vehicle, the only thing I do is I put it in a large heavy duty otto bin liner (just incase) but so far have never had it spill.. As mentioned above I only put enough
water in the top
tank for a few flushes unless staying some where for a while then I fill it up. I use the green and pink chemicals and have had no problems but will give the tablets ago next time to see how they go. Regards Steve

X2 for the big plastic bag. S**t does happen, sometimes literally.
Apart for the extra capacity, with the bigger
tank you can take care of business in comfort without having your knees in your ears.

Likewise with no problems. Once seperated, the inlet on the bottom
tank won't open until the top section is replaced. Just make sure the dump pipe lid is on properly.
We also only put a couple of litres at a time in the flush
tank, as it makes the whole unit too heavy if filled with about 14 litres in the flush
tank.
We find the green and pink chemicals excellent. Tried the tablets, but find the chemicals better, (just our opinion), and store the bottles in a small sealed bucket in the van boot.
When on the road, at least once a week I give the whole unit a good clean. Used to be very sceptical about using one of these, but now wouldn't be without one.
Cheers from Fred.

UGH to chemicals Fred. You are also too limited at where it can be safely emptied. The feedback from other forums is to use the home brand Nappy Plus powders from Coles and Woolworths. Those who have made the change get even better results than when using the Bio safe products (which work in a similar way). Cheap too.

MH & Colin, I'm always up for new ideas. Must try the nappy plus. Do you use it in both tanks and how much ? Sounds like a cheap alternative.
Fred.

I also find Napisan just great and no chance of spilled chemicals.
I use a lid full into both top and bottom (in a caravan) and have no complaints.
Home brand Napisan is all that is required.

We tried using one lidful in the bottom
tank and then increased it to two and are now using three as it didnt seen to work effectively with the smaller amounts, especially in warmer temperatures. Maybe it is just me! LOL
Suggest you experiment with this and see for yourself.
Have used both the Coles and Woolworths Home brands. We changed from the Thetford green and Pink chemicals which worked very efectively but are difficult to dispose of safely in the bush. Nappy soaker is much cheaper too.
Cheers,
Heather

Hi Fred
Check out a recent threads (within last two or three months) on the subject. One may have a link to a thread on the caravaners
forum. We will finish off the Bio Magic before starting on the nappy plus. So far we only use
water in the top
tank - which is all i do at home. $48 for a bottle of Bio, and $6 for a whole kilo of the Coles stuff.
