Hi all
We have a 40 ltr Engel that has just "died".
The power light still comes on and it sounds like the fridge is trying to start but can't.
Any suggestions? We live in
Darwin.
Thanks
Lyndon

This might sound like a silly question but are you sure it is getting a full 12 volts with no voltage drop? Has it been running normally connected to the same supply? Can you try another power source that is confirmed reliable/
Try the simple things first.

Hi Ian
It's on 240 at home, have not tried on 12 volt for a few weeks.
Cheers Lyndon

Hi Lyndon,
Sounds like a job for the tech guy but would be worth trying it on 12v to see what happens. Good luck with it.

We just had to replace our power lead. The fridge end came apart "inside" the plug. Excellent fridge but absolute rubbish plug. The wires broke off the "brass" connector inside the plug.
Maybe yours is coming apart and with only a small number of wire strands you are not getting the full voltage.

Lyndon, try using a different lead, the one on your PC will work. then also replace your 10 amp fuse.

I had an engel years ago that had blown its 240v to 12 inverter. This engel had a real rough life and was 15yrs old when I got it second hand - and I had it for another 15years before selling it for a good profit. It would run fine on 12 v but not on 240v. To plug in the 240 it was completely dead. Paid for a new part to get fitted and it was fine forever. If your light is coming on that sounds different.
My waeco had a similar problem to yours. All lights on and sounds like it tries to start up but just not happening after that. Turned out to be the temperature sensor had packed it in - replaced under warranty.
My other waeco kept getting an error light - turned out to be the entire mother board - replaced under warranty. This same waeco also had a blown 5amp fuse at one stage - same deal - a lights one but no pump - replaced under warranty.
Lucky all these things keep happening while my waecos are under warranty. Unlike my other engel which probably won't blow up for 20years when it is not under warranty any more.

Hi lyndon,
if you need some advise, give LM Rees at Wynette st, Pennington a ring he is the engle man in SA , nice bloke very far to deal with.
If this is the
grey electronic model you could be introuble, I do repair them, but have to send them to Lydnesy to get the electronics checked. if the compressor is gone normally the board is too and it become to expensive to repair.
I hope it is only a thermostat stopping it running, then will be an easy repair.
being on 240 and the indicator light is on makes me think the lead is ok, give it a try on 12 volt and see what happens.
goodluck, regards bob

My old 39 litre did the same thing about 4 years ago. I think is was the compressor and the local service agent repaired it for $500. It was about 12 years old then and has been fine since.
