Hello all.
Im on my way up the east coast of Australia at the moment.
My plan is to do alot of land based fishing and target some big fish any way possible. At the moment im nearly in Makay and from there ill be heading further north and then on to the west coast. I have a 2wd campervan so some spots i wont be able to get to but any advice on some good land based spots would be good(or do most most beaches produce).Ill also be looking at doing some fishing charters (any good ones i must do?)
what is the Deal with fishing licences ? do i need one? if so how much?
Any a dvice would be greatly appreciated ,
cheers

Perhaps the locals. They can also advise you regarding fishing licence etc. Never know, you might even get to learn of some 'secret spots' !!

Pony181 - :-) Nice try - Not sure there is a fisherman out there that would answer this question on line.

In the water is a good start :-).

Other factors come in to play up this way as well as a good spot. You need the right tide the right day and the right weather.

I suggest for the right information that you call in to the local Tackle shop at each spot and buy some bait, when there ask for a spot to try. Most of the locals that run these shops like to point a person in the right direction because it brings them back.

Me i will tell you where to fish, but most likely you will not try it again :-) Cheers Tony

Lucky you are fishing the east coast, WA has exorbitant license fees now family of four over $1200.00 for the year. You need a license to fish specific fresh water dams, available at local fishing tackle stores.

About the Townsville area only.

Fishing charters ? May I suggest Eddie Riddle fish city charters 0408 767 387

I don't have any interest in eddies charters though I do know he can catch barra in a bathtub. Very experienced local bloke.
Also Andrew Mead is worth a look up , don't know his phone number however he has been chartering the local creek for some years now.

Angler - I do not live in Townsville anymore, maybe we could give him some of the good spots there :-)

Is Magnetic Island a Green Zone yet? I used to have a great spot there for catching large Queenie's and Scarlet Sea Perch. Also a couple of good barra spots across the southern bay. Cheers Tony
