Gday all

I have a 1991 GQ and would like to take off the existing steering wheel and replace it with the later year GQ steering wheel which is quite a bit thicker. Can anyone tell me if it as simple as removing one and putting the other one on? Are the centres etc the same?

Should be, the boss kit for my sporty type wheel was the same for all GQ's Mr Autobarn told me...

Its a 10 min job to find out!

yep - just try the swap :-)

super easy....

I fitted an aftermarket wheel to my '90 GQ last week. Stock wheel was falling apart. As far as I could tell the GQ bosses are all the same, so should be fine :-)

Zapper,
It's a good idea to make up a small puller rather than beat the crap out of the steering wheel with a hammer trying to the the old one off, it's on a taper and it can be tight. Plus it shakes the rest of the steering column components to bits.

Mine came of very easily just with a gentle pull once the nut was off - but you're right - they can be tough and it's not a good idea to beat anything up with a hammer :-)

K-Mart sells a steering wheel puller kit very cheaply :-)
