Hi Folks. I've told the boss we need time out in December this year and we were thinking of heading over to Mallacoota (VIC) around the 12th of December, and then perhaps wandering aimlessly up the coast towards Batemans as we see fit. Camping at van parks probably. Question is - will it be to stupidly busy at that time of year? Should we head inland instead perhaps?

Thanks - Pat

Not really stupidly busy as it is just before school holidays and the general christmas break. We normally head up the NSW south coast at the start of December for a week or so and even the hugely popular parks at Pambula and Merimbula are not very packed. Mallacoota should be reasonably quiet at that time. The council park gets packed at holiday breaks (Easter Christmas etc) but during off peak times it is OK.

Ditto AJB - that's probably about the best time to go (or Feb after school goes back but the water is not quite so icy cold) as most people will be still planning for Christmas etc. The crowds don't usually descend on those places until Boxing Day.

Mallacoota will be OK that time of year and is a really nice spot.
The main van park /camping ground is huge.
Take time to explore the Croajingalong NP while you are in the area - it virtually surrounds Mallacoota. There's a Parks offcie in Mallacoota where you can get info.
