Hi all,
I am close to buying a troopy but have a couple problems to sort before hand.
1. Currently 11 seater setup - I want to change to 5
seat setup like the RV troopy. The dealer has said that I will need to get an engineers certificate to do this to make it legal for rego and insurance.
2. Finding the seats...?? Could be difficult .
3. Are the RV model front seats the same as the non RV model to access the rear from the front doors?
Thanks for the help..
Marco

Correct.

Very true, it's hard enough finding a whole RV on the secondhand market let alone just the seats.
3. Are the RV model front seats the same as the non RV model to access the rear from the front doors?
No, different. The 5 seater RV's have bucket seats in the front. The passengers side bucket slides further forward than the drivers to give rear
seat access.
Hope that helps,
Geoff

"the only RV I have seen DID have a fancy

And it would have had a leaf sprung front end as
well as a normally aspirated 1HZ engine.
The very early RV's still had the 2 - 1 front seats like the poverty pack 11 seater troopy's.
The later one's have two front buckets.

Hi Marco,
I did what you are looking at doing - my troopy was an 11 seater.
I took out the side facing rear seats myself and found a suitable back
seat at the wreckers - it was the back
seat (2 seater) from a SWB pajero.
I then took it to a
seat installer to get installed - they did the install and certificate (this is in SA), the main issue when getting the certificate was how the seatbelts were installed.
I suggest contacting a car
seat conversion/installation business to get advice - I can give you details for the company I used if you are in
Adelaide

Troopy,
I have found an aftermarket installer who will do the job for $1500 - new bench
seat installed with child restraints and engineer cert.
So it looks like a go for the troopy. Problem is the front seats still but will eventually get around this one.
Thanks
Marco

Lots of
places do after market seating . For just over a thousand bucks they will supply the 3 seater and install lap sash retractable belts on the side and lap only in the middle and certified as
well . My bench
seat folds up behind the front seats and i have the entire back like in a 3 seater if i want . Get rid of the front seats and put in a pair of height adjustable from the wreckers . These will have to be complied as
well .

I had a 75 troopie which was registerd as a 11 seater. I went to a mechanic who could issue blue slips, he issued me with a certificate to say that it had changed to a 5 seater. It cost me $38.00 back in 2004. I hope this helps.

Trevor,
Thanks. Thought finding the seats was going to be really hard.
Can I ask what number would not offend you?
