Greetings, would be interested in anyone who may have a Jayco Dove or similar and any mods or tricks they may know about. I' have a new 2009 outback that I'm keen to fit extra storage to aswell as a (reliable) bike rack and possibly an extension to the smaller of the 2 beds.....This replaces my off road camper( the Mrs made me do it) and I find that i've go alot of stuff that doesnt seem to fit.
Cheers
Scott

HI, If your going off road have a look around at stone protection.
WE have an outback Eagle and stone guards would have prevented most of the damage we have had while off roading in our van.
There is a guard that fits from the tow bar under the A frame that is made from shade cloth type of material that I have seen on one of the forums ,
also a good set of mud flaps to tow vehicle will help.
cheers Butch

Hi ferret
our dove outback is about 12 months old. have installed more shelves, made them out of 6mm perspex, so u can see through rather than peer under.
in next month or 2, will replace the 15" wheels with 17" to match the prado.
ours came with a dinghy rack. have installed an extra rack in the middle & the added a couple of bars length ways, so we can store both bikes horizontally.
have taken off the awning & will see this weekend if a Fiamma windout one
will fit, weighs 22kg so not sure. saw one on a flamingo in
derby.
will add plastic tubing for the fly poles.
thats probably all, so far.
yes have seen them with bike racks on the back tyre, not sure about the stability and if the rear bar can handle the weight. my book states should only handle about 30kg.
good luck Tom

Cheers for the reply, have so far fitted a 100 mm PVC tube under the front boot for poles, fits neatly to the front crossmember. Want to flip over the little shelf under the sink to the right so the hoses come through at the back, and replace all hoses with proper
water ones...poor design.Like the idea of extra shelves in perspex, what did you use to mount them? Just a bit of Ali angle? Also will fit a tap to access
water from the bottom of the tank and drain it and add better protection. Gonna move the Jerry can to the rear bar, shift the gas bottle forward a bit(after changing it for a WA size one for ease of refills) and add an extra box on the A frame. will also fit a stone guard.
Only had it a coulpe of months so time will bring more ideas.
Looked at changing the wheels to 17s aswell to match the Patrol but not sure the they will fit under the Guards??
Cheers

yep good idea about the hoses.
for the shelving just used, 19mm x 19mm pine, glued & screwed to walls. where the fire ext is, rested the perpex on the wheel guard & used long timber screws from under the perspex & screwed into the wood behind the fire ext moulding & supported the rest with the pine.
my prado wheels are 6 stud & they fit straight on. but being 265 are a bit wide so will have to look for 255 or 245's.
for the
water tank, a hose & tap would probably fit in place of the drain plug. so far the existing protection has been Ok for us. we took it for a recent trip up the GRR and to
cape leveque.
yep I will add the 100m pvc for the poles.
good luck cheers Tom

How is it going?
We've just picked up a 2008 Jayco Eagle Outback.
Has only the basics.
Would like to do any mods to make the big trip next year as hassle-free as possible e.g. stone guard, more
water tank protection .....
Any ideas much appreciated!
