Starting to organise a 12month or so trip. Chatting to a mate today the van and car are registered in different months (NSW) never a problem when in NSW but how do we get on say in WA when either is due, are there inspection stations like in NSW and can it be done.
Not interested in hypotheticals and the wys and wherefores just some informed information from anyone that has been there done that.
Thank you

You can register 3 months early in NSW if that helps.

We've been on the road for almost four years and the rego for car and caravan have never fallen due while in our NSW home state. It has never been a problem to find a local garage or state-run checking station to run an acceptable local version of the NSW pink slip. So far none have been able to link to the RTA's computer system to make it all automatic, so the mechanical report just gets posted the old-fashioned way. Everything else is easily handled on the internet.
If in doubt, call the state's version of the RTA and ask if they have a list of mechanical workshops in your area who can give you a mechanical check for interstate registration.

We did this years ago
You can also rego a NSW vehicle whilst you are inter state BUT ONCE ONLY. You will need a neighbour to pick up the RTA documents and post them on to you. RTA would not send duplicates to us in the other state. You get your rego inspection compliance certificate from the interstate garage and send it off to RTA's head office it used to be Rothchild Street Botany.
They process the rego BUT post the windscreen sticker back to your registered address. Your good neigbour then posts it on to where you are.
Convoluted I know but that is how NSW does it.. If you are on a epic trip taking more than 1 rego I don't know the answer.

RTA - 132 213.
It appears you also know how to use the internet so you could also try www.rta.nsw.gov.au.
Might save you some time and you also get the correct information from the appropriate authority that deals with that sort of stuff.
Best of luck
