Hi Shane,
The CSR is one of Australia's most remote treks.
Suggest that you go with a group as a tag along.
You will need to ensure that you carry enough fuel for at least 1100 Km of soft sand driving, suggest 200 Lts + minimum, as resupply can be sporadic.
Also food and
water for 3 weeks, working on 5L per person per day, not including washing
water or emergency radiator supplies.
Remote area comms are essential,
HF radio and or satphone. These can be hired from various
places if you don't wish to purchase them for the trip.
You will need to carry vehicle spares, eg: belts, radiator hoses, spare shocks, 2 spare
wheels, and maybe a spare case. Tools, compressor and tyre repair equipment, assortment of fuses and electrical stuff. Tyres should have 75% tread or more.
Camping and cooking equipment.
Make sure your vehicle is
well serviced by a reputable person before departure and make sure that they are advised that the vehicle is going to a remote area.
That's all I can think of for now, no doubt others will jump in as
well.
