Hi Learned Forumites.
Did a bit of a search in the forum but couldn't readily find an answer to my question.
I'm a learner Grey(ish) Nomad travelling North to avoid some of the Mexican Winter. By the time I reach Darwin (hope it's not full up with GN's) my Patrol will be due for an oil and filter change. I'd like also to change the driveline oils as I'm pulling a van and they all work a bit harder.
Looking for recommendations on somewhere in Darwin that knows their 4WD's as we all know the dealers don't. We are planning to stay in Darwin for a couple of weeks (at least) so I should have ample opportunity to fit in with a busy business.
Thanks (in anticipation) for any suggestions. Been a reader of this forum for many years and a member for 3+ years, but apart from an occasional forum entry reply this is my first full-on post. So be kind.
Regards, Jim.

I know it's not Darwin, but...

Try Willy's Mechanical Repairs in Mataranka, you drive directly past him on the Stuat Highway, and Mataranka is a decent place to stay, what with two caravan parks and the springs.

I've had this bloke service my Landrover & Triton whilst up there, he does a good job and will not rip you off.

I wouldn't take my wheelbarrow there. Kerry's sell a number of makes and I believe spread themselves a bit thin on parts and expertise. They will disavow all their c0ckups and deny and argue everything. 4.2L TD Patrol in for a service prior to long trip. Half way through it blew an EGR pipe behind motor. A QLD dealer said it was a recall item and should have been changed at service. Broken trip plans, several days off road in QLD, much expense etc, response from Kerrys was: shrug shoulders and idiot grin! Won't even fix firewall heat damage. Every service was a drama and required tidy up work. They didn't even check the aircleaner when the vehicle was covered in dust-bit of a clue it might be worth a look. In too much of a hurry to get the invoice made up (including the charge to service airfilter) and get it out the door (always later than promised, despite having vehicle all day).
But of course since then they have changed service managers, improved workshop, blah, blah, BS!

Phew, now I feel better! :-)
My experience only, YMMV of course!
I do my own, but have found Phil Kerr helpful on odd occasions.

Yes I second t303's comment, not only are they incompetent but they will flush your wallet with "aplomb" .

My daughter had her Holden serviced there and as stated "disavow all their cock ups and deny and argue everything."

There was one incident where my daughter had her car serviced, they replaced a headlight bulb did not replace the plug to the light, they wanted her to rebook the car in and were going to charge to put the plug back!

Yes find someone else.
