Hello all, Could someone tell me why there is an earth strap connected to caravan doors & the door frame. Must be a reason, although they always seem to be broken. Thanks & Cheers

G/day Barry, I don't know the reason, but van doors are not earthed without this because of their plastic hinges and locks, hence an earth strap to the van body .Probably to comply with some Aust .,standard in the mobile home industry.Regards Keith C

It would be to earth the door to the van.
I would say it will be a gas regulation as there are LPG appliances in the van and in the case of a leak, an unearthed door could build up a static charge and arc across to the body igniting the the gas filled van.
Just my thought.

mine yesterday after finding
mine broken also....could'nt find any of that flexible stuff though and just raplaced it with light multi core for now. All to do with the LPG and static Elec. I would presume....I don't want to find out the hard way LOL

I dunno how to do the photo bit!! But seeing you have metal hinges I think it would be the same as an earth strap.
The existing earth strap is only about 50mm long, one end attached to the door, the other end attached to the door frame. The hinges on
mine are plastic. Cheers
