Hi Everyone,

I am after a Honda EX350 Honda EX350 Pic What do you think a fair price is for one of these units? I have been chasing one for a while now. I am currently on the road full time and one has come up for sale close to my Dad. So its easy for someone to pick up for me. It looks in good nick but I think they are after too much. So what would you pay?

This is the unit on fleabay EX350

I am only after one of these to run a ctek charger as a backup for my solar setup on my van and to top up my car batterys if we are in one spot for a while.

Thanks for your help.

Matt

Hi Matt

I saw that but its a little overpriced unless you really knew the cylinder and bearings were good , I believe they only have a certain lifetime.

Still if I needed it now. I would buy it

Be aware that the 350 may NOT be suitable for the c/tec charger depending on size of the c/tec.

Hi Matt

I used to have a Honda 450 and found it just too small. It would struggle or not even run the job with so many of the normal things I went camping with. Sure if you just had one thing plugged in it could do it but when you are camping with a few mates, as soon as the genie comes out everyone wants a bit of the power.

I now have a Honda 1000. That works fine. Powers up everything within reason. Even pushed a microwave onto it a couple of times - bit under powered for that.

It is not that much larger. If you are going to get a genie and have to carry fuel & oil you might as well go for a larger one that will do the job.

Remember the 350 watts is peak power when it is running flat out - after a while they even struggle to do that. At that watt range you would be better to just use a battery and inverter.

They are a great little unit , had one for a few years and upgraded to the 1000w model...probably a bit over priced that one on Ebay , but if you really want it and you are only running a portable fridge and a few lights and maybe a 4-8 amp battery charger like we were then go for it...we ran ours on half throttle for a lot of the time that we had it and to the best of my knowledge the person that bought it of us a few years ago is still using it. They use sweet bugger all fuel...I think ours ran for about 8 hrs on a tank of fuel (about 2l I think) at half throttle.....cheers

Hi there. Hopefully one of the experts on this site can answer the question: will the EX350 safely power a switch mode batter charger (such as the CTek), in terms of voltage stability and frequency control. And will it safely power the Engel again in terms of voltage control and frequency.
If so, then it may do the job; if not, then it doesn't matter much what the nominal capacity (in watts) is, it shouldn't be used.

These units are fairly old
most Honda dealers don't keep parts for these but parts can be ordered in ex Japan. I wouldn't use one - you would be better off with a 2nd hand EU10i if you could afford it.

I sold mine on eBay about a month ago for $405. It was in perfect nick. That was way more than I expected, I've seen them go for $200 and $300 in good condition.

I saw your wanted ad Matt but I thought you'd laugh at me if I said I wanted $350 for it. Someone on here reported once they got one for $45 in good condition.

It did run my Ctek 7amp and put out a full 7amps on a test I did but I was worried it would fry it. It will not run the Ctek 15amp effectively, I tried it at the local Battery World shop.

Before I sold it I rang Bainbridge here in Brisbane who sell the Ctek and they advised against using the 350 to run Ctek chargers as the modified sine wave would stuff it.

I ended up using my old 10amp car charger on the batteries when bush camping, which it ran quite happily.

Great little genny but very limited.

Hi Matt

I have been watching ebay for ages and have seen 2 in the last 6 mths or so. Both went for around 3 to 400 dollars and were pretty hotly bidded. I have one myself and have used it for lighting, and running a drill. I don't think much of them as a battery charger as the rated 4A seems to be optimistic (measured with meter). I dont think they are powerful enough to run a 240v battery charger properly. Can you find out how many watts is required to properly power the c tek charger? I suspect that ctek chargers are only compatable with pure sine generaters. That is something you need to check!! On the positive side they are light compact and mines starts first pull every time. On economy setting (150w) it is fairly quiet. If you paid $400 and found it unsuitable you may drop a few dollars in reselling.

regards Kc

Thanks for all your replys and input.

I am going to see if I can get it for the price it is listed at at the moment. If it dosent do what I want it to do (back-up battery charger and thats all) then I will re sell it.

I am hoping that it will only be a backup and it will work.

Thanks again.

Matt

ps will let you know how I go with it. I am off to Carnarvon range tomorrow and will be off computer for a week or two

Just a little side note Matt.

Being two stroke they carry no oil and without fuel can be saftely shipped even on a plane.
Used to take my work one all over the place that way, even to mines in Kalgoolie etc.

If you don't feel able to test it correctly I could do that in melbourne.
