Hi Mark,
If you are asking if there are dedicated channels for emergency, caravans, calling, trucks etc. then the answer is no. UHF is not used very much other then 4wd clubs. The UHF frequencies in NZ are the same as in Australia but people mostly just use the UHF for convoy use and pick any channel they want.
I am in NZ, are you intending to come over this way ?

Plenty of snow on the Tararua range to day - very nice against the blue sky.
Unless you want to talk to one of your family when in convoy you are unlikly to hear much on the UHF.
Send me an email

Hi Mark
The channel frequencies here in New Zealand are just the same as Australia and radios are completely compatible.
I have used my N.Z. hand held in Aus no problems.
There are no, or few repeaters here, so most channels are used apart from the data transmission channels.
UHF is not used a lot on the road in N.Z. though truckies can appear on 40 at times and Motor homes on 18 and 20 also at times.
At this time of the year round here the Dairy Farmers use them and can come up on any channel, it is their busy time, cows calving.
The old C.B.s were quite common before Cell phones, don't think they are used much at all now. I have a box of old C.B.s in a shed, used to have one in each tractor, truck, car, etc along with a base. Cell phones made them obsolete.
We were far enough away from town so that the idiots were not a problem.
A bit like Aus I suppose, the closer to the cities the more idiots you seem to get on the UHF.
Cheers
Russ
