Does anybody know the legality of the blue headlights now on some vehicles?
I find driving towards them at night they can be a reel pain in the butt the way they keep "flashing" especially on soft
suspension vehicles and uneven roads.

yep very annoying, much worse than any 'fog lights' that usually get a bollocking...

"red philips ones" Which ones are these? I tried searching but got nothing.
By "blue" do you mean the HID lookalikes? They are ADR approved.
The ones that are illegal are the aftermarket HID kits as the cars don't have autoleveliing and headlamp washers which are required for HID.

They only look red on certain angles & are supposed to be better in fog or rain. And it's illegal to have any foward facing lights that aren't white or
orange.

No they are not illegal because they are a standard type halogen light, the blue (6000K to 8000K heat range) lights look brighter when looking at them because human eyes are not designed to work in that colour range....human eyes were only ever intended to work in to 100 to 5000K range (4700K is
bright day light)
Ray there is the misconseption that a lot of people thing the standard type blue halogen lights are HID when in fact a lot of them are the standard halogen type.
A lot of boy racers have them and thing they look cool and this is where the misconception comes from.....the ill informed public see a blue tinted light and straight away the think it must be HID because they are so
bright.
True HID's are available in the 6000k but the factory ones are around 4700K.
The higher the K rating of the light the less light is outputed to the road.
Yes the standard halogen with a blue tint should be made ILLEGAL...HID's NO.

Hi Ray,
I may be completely wrong, but I will throw this in for discussion anyway - I think that there is an ADR and legal limit to the watts for low beam, it may be 60 watts. The boys that change to the blue globes also up the wattage to 100. This means that, although they are on low beam, that 'flashing' is a lot brighter that it otherwise would/should be. The flashing itself when the car is bouncing on the bumps is a product of the cut-off in the reflectors when on low beam.

Mike, you're a little off target. You can buy 55/60W "blue" globes that are ADR approved. They are very easy to find.
However, you can also buy the 100W "blue" globes also - ebay mostly. Not sure why you'd want to though since your polycarbonate lens and wiring won't last very long.
I use the Philips +90% which are bluer in colour. They are 55/60W.

Hi guys,
White colour to be displayed to the front for headlights, white or
orange visible to the front for side/clearance lights, orange/red visible to the rear for same, red for tail lights and brake lights, white for a reversing light if fitted. It all depends on the type of vehicle being driven.
High Intensity rear tail lights and front mounted Day lights (those that wankers have on ALL the time because some drivers can't see a little light on the dash) are illegal except in bad visibility.

When these first came out in Qld they were ADR approved but not legal as an aftermarket fit. No forward facing blue light as stated above. Legal though on Audi, BMW etc because they were OE.
They are now legal, here in Qld anyway, the boys in blue won't bother you. This was due to a
Brisbane mechanic who was booked for having them on his Falcon ute, taking the fight all the way, with help from the manufacturers, and winning.
