Have noticed a fair bit about them in the last few days, the last of
mine came through today for our trip to the centre and back Sept/Oct this year, GCR, SBJT,
Kintore road Haasts
Bluff etc. Was just curious as to whether anybody has actually been asked to show a Tranit Permit whilst travelling through Traditional Owners lands??????

When I came through from Telfer to
Alice Springs, I got fuel at Punmu and spoke to the coppers at
Kintore. Nobody was interested in permits.
Willie.

I always do.
But that isn't to say I follow the exact wording on the permit every time.
Several times sunset has arrived unexpectedly and we have been forced to
camp overnight, despite only having 'transit' permits.
We have been known to get seriously lost and unintentionally deviate from the track covered in the permit by several hundred kilometers. This has happened a lot.
Sadly, some of the very best country I have traversed has been while we've been 'lost'. Have never seen another soul on any of these tracks.
The transit permit system seems to be working pretty
well. Approvals are almost instant.

xxx,
I have never ever heard of a member of the general public getting a permit to Blackstone.
Can I assume that you were on business?
If you were not on business, can you detail the procedure you went through as I, and a number of people watching this thread would be interested.
Cheers
Alan

It was April 07. A group of four vehicles. The permit was to travel from
Warburton to Jamieson, Blackstone and Wingellina, then up to Giles. The stated purpose was to visit art centres, which we did. We also purchased quite a few paintings. We had previously been to SG corner so didn't bother agin on this trip.

Just returned from a trip Melb to
Darwin and return with 7 vehicles. Some of the of the
places visited.
Borroloola,
Nhulunbuy,Finke,
Simpson desert.
We were not asked for permits or passes.I've never been asked for either in 30 years of outback travel .

Gday,
Ive never been asked for a permit yet. That doesnt mean you wont though?
Also......the laws regarding permits in the NT at the moment are not real clear. From what I understand you dont need them at all if you stay on the "public" roads. The CLC site leads you to believe you do need a permit but I think its a bit misleading.....
If you look like a contractor you will probably not get asked but if you look like a tourist your chances are a lot higher.
Be very careful with carrying grog though......they will string you up if you get caught at the moment.
Your choice
Cheers

I just came back from that area and was not asked once. The experience of getting them was interesting.
Instantly inline from the WA mob.
3 weeks from the NT mob but totally inconsistent conditions and for 1 day to do 900km! I asked for an adjustment and got 4 days. Still inconsistencies. I asked for corrections and never heard back (I suspect I had some one on work experience and they got too embarrassed to ask someone else for help)
For the
Sandy Blight Junction road, the Ngaanyatjarra Council (to whom you have to write snail mail) never replied.
