Had a great 5 days detecting for 25 VERY small nuggets (2.9gm). Got another ten nuggets on the two days after the tagalong tour with Gold Prospecting Australia ended.

Those small nuggets really help you hone your technique.

One of the others "detectorists" actually had an Exploroz sticker on his car.

Nice company, plenty of lies around the campfire and gold was not too hard to find.

Half your luck Willie. Just think, ten more trips like that and you could pay for the fuel out to one of these trips hehehehe but as we all know, it is all about being out there and the company we keep whilst out there.

Sounds like I need to retire I think.
Cheers, trevor.

Hi Willie
We have just returned from a great trip through the Great Victoria Desert. When we were stopped at Laverton for a few days, the size of some of the nuggets being found made us green with envoy. My wife now wants a gold detector to spend a lot of time over that way. I have told Fiona to start saving.

Cheers

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

They all probably showed you their largest nugget. In June, I spent 24 days over there at Laverton and just north of there. I got 65 nuggets for less than 45gm. 90% of them were under 1.5 gm.

Even in WA you are lucky to cover your costs - especially if you buy $6G worth of machine.

A very enjoyable hobby though. Maybe you should hire a detector and try it out, before you outlay the big ones .

Cheers,

Willie.

What I cant understand is how you and that other honest exploroz member sat around a campfire listening to all those peoples lies.
It must have hurt.

Hi all

I was just wondering what sort of gold detectors you guys are using these days, as I am looking at getting back into it.

Wico,
I use a Minelab 4500 with a Coiltek 14" Gold Stalker eliptical mono coil. A couple using a hotted up Minelab Xtreme, found the biggest weight during the trip.

Gidday Willie, it is a good pastime, the hair still stands up on the back of my neck when I remember finding the one in the photo. Cant tell you exactly where I found it (I would have to kill myself) but it was in the Ashburton Goldfield. I still have my old Garrett A2B, paid $900 brand new in late 83. Could find gold half the size of a grain of rice, was a bugger for all the rusty bits of fly wire used in sieves. Never learnt to discriminate as the bloke who taught me always said dig every signal.
Cheers
