Hi All,
Hoping I can get some suggestions from all you well travelled people.
We are part of a four family group - 8 adults, 9 kids (4-11 age group) who are heading to Karijini in a fortnight. The plan is to come back to Perth with only an overnighter on the way home! I know, it's a really long way. Anyway. hoping to stay on a station, perhaps near Cue. Have been warned off Meekatharra but would happily read all suggestions. We will all have hired camper trailers so can pitch trailers for the last night or sleep in bunk houses etc. Thanks for your suggestions. Safe and happy travelling.

If your happy with about a 1000k 2nd day drive back to Perth I recently stayed at Yanerri Pool, which is about 35 k North of Kumarina Road House. It's a really prety billabong acessed of a mining entrance. No sign posts so if you have a GPS running Ozi or similar it will show up or 24 26.398S 119 41.077E

we were up that way in late april this year.

in the reverse direction we've stopped at cue overnight. watch out for the prickles in the grass ;)

only looked at paynes find but the park seemed like a typical outback caravan park.

didn't take a huge amount of notice about entertainment for kids though.

you may be lucky and get to play beer bingo in the pub at cue. depends if the minimal english speaking french barmaid is still there or not.

You could free camp at Lake Nallen - 20 klm north of Cue. Looking beautiful at the moment.

I've camped at Lake Nallan and thought it was excellent.

I believe that recently the Council that covers the area has imposed a camping ban there.

As much as I like to rail against authority (character flaw, I'm afraid) it may pay to have a backup plan if you choose Lake Nallan.

I dont want to say you are incorrect Gone Bush but I overnighted there only a couple of weeks ago and there where at least 5 other vans there. In the morning I took a big walk around the late to take photos and there werent any signs saying no camping.

I hope you are right Ian & Sue. It's a very nice place.

I'd love to go back there one day.

I opened the thread to say Lake Nallan (no facilities at all though). To clarify - when we were there at the start of our trip (camped in the middle) they came to close off access to the middle (almost an island). The north and south sides were to remain open.

G'day Jackia

If you require some comforts plus power for your fridge etc, most of the main town caravan parks including Meekatharra are all worth considering and forget about the bull you might hear about Meekatharra.

Look for the " Station Stay " signs along the highway, station stays have all the amenities for comfortable camping.

All " station stays " are great, your kids will be more than welcome and there are usually lots of small farm animals around the place to keep them interested.

Don't be shy ~ go in and ask questions and have a yack about the place and find out what they have to offer.

Regards:
