Hi, people
Just wondering what a case of midstrength is worth at Birdsville,Coober Pedy, and Alice springs. I remember paying $50 for a case of VB at Mataranka back in 1987,and $50 at Bamaga for XXXX gold in 2007.

Also, are there ample dump points for carrying a porta potti outback, we will be travelling along the birdsville tk, oodnadatta tk,coober pedy, mt dare, chambers pillar,Uluru, west macdonnell ranges.
I thought it might be a good Idea to carry one incase we don`t stay at a camp ground with all ammenities. At least then we can save a few dollars on camping fees.
Heading off august 12.

Cheers

Gooday Mrbrush,
can't tell you dump points except Alice (most CP's have them), but suggest you use Odour-B-Gone tabs in your porta potti. As they are biodegradable, if you do need to "unload" out bush, you can dig a hole and safely dump contents. They come in slow and fast acting versions; half a tab in a 15 litre potti works fine.

sor, forgot to add; fast acting is for porta potti, and slow acting is for grey water and sullage tanks.

Yes thats right, for every 2 nights I don`t have to pay fees, there`s another case of grog for me.
So I can have a few beers of an afternoon just like the rest of us average Aussies.

Prices in Alice aren't to bad, can't give you an exact figure though. Outside of there you are going to pay a fair bit more.

Can't help with drop points. All the places you are going to have toilets. I know Alice has a drop point as I did an oil change next to it.

Have a good one

Gerday Mrbrush,

Expect to pay between $55 & $70 for a case of your favorite dust remover, obviously more expensive in the out of the way places!

Regards

Jeff

Its not what things are worth in the outback, Its how much they can suck out of you if you want it.

EG newspapers are usually around $4

Getting a tradesman (If U can get one) is horrendous.

Cost me $90 in Kunanurra for a gasfitter to come to the van and tell me the gas was fine.

It wasnt, got worse and have had it fixed in Geraldton .

Camps 4 or 5 has a list of known dump points all around Australia

Has more info for $55 than you will find on a carton of beer LOL

Thanks graham, I flicked through that book (camps aus) just last week at a camping store.

I think I`ll get it before I leave.

Beer was $60 a carton at Cameron Corner a month ago. Should be indicative of the whole area.

Can't help with the dump point question though - I still prefer a long handled shovel and a deep hole!

Good Luck

Yes, I`d probably just grab a shovel too.
But I think the wife would clobber me with it if I handed it to her.

Hi there Mrbrush, I cant help you with the dump point info, but I am an experienced beer drinker, so here's my advise.

First & foremost, ignore your wifes comments about how much you drink. The same goes for what your GP tells you.

Second, regardless of where you buy your favourite grog, the B.....sds will touch you. So get used to it!!

Take it from an old fellah, you just have to make your mind up how much you are prepared to be ripped off. & then you have to weigh that up against how thirsty you are.

Now here is the tricky bit. When travelling & you enter a bottleo at 11.00 am & consider that the thieving B....sds want way to much for a carton you have to forget that it is 11.00 am. You must NOT walk out empty handed!!

You must now focus on happy hour later in the day!! Imagine being at your camp site, it's now 5.00 PM, you have just wetted your palate with the one & only stubby you possess. You now have the taste, but nothing in stock to follow up with! You have an Engle, the best on the market, its got solar power, standby battery, Honda Genny to fire up, but the Engle has NO GROG. The only happy person will be your wife. And there is no point in keeping them happy.

It is at this point you will consider that the asking price of $85.00 per carton was fair & reasonable after all & wish you had o0f made the purchase.

Just my opinion. LOL & Cheers

Strain the Metho through a loaf of bread, that doe's the trick, no need then for the cotton wool.

Gday,
In Alice, you will pay between $30- $40 for midstrength, depending on specials.
There are no dump points I know of out the West Macs but there is one at the $hit ponds in Alice.
I wouldnt rely on buying grog out of the major towns at all! There are too many regulations.....some places have a six pack limit, some you need to be a paying guest and some dont have takaway licences at all. Your better off stocking up before you head out.

Cheers

At Alice iI had to have my licenced scanned to be able to purchase a carton.
Didn't seemed to stop the drunks hanging around the shopping centre though.
