Hi guys...

What a blast.... 13 days in Outback NSW, QLD and SA....

5000km over the whole trip and having a Rover V8 getting between 25l/100 and 35l/100 the trip was not as cheap as i planned....

But i loved it....
Thanks to those who met on the trip and those who helped me when my car spat a Uni in the tail shaft in the Strezleki.....

Weather was perfect and i'm going back as soon as i can...

Regards
Steve

G'Day Steve
Where did you go and what was there to see.
You certainly did a lot of km's in a short time.
Sounds like you had a good time

Pix coming as i'll post the lot on the Landrover site.... if you look on that site you wont contract oil leakage or weak driveline syndrome..lol

What happened.... ha ha

Ok, car was rebuilt from scratch over past 6 months, new Rover V8 engine, ZF auto with 3rd gear locks up and new suspension ect.....
Rear tailshaft was from a car i used to own, it was ok when i fitted, but some silly goose forgot to grease it before he left.... so basicly it ran dry and the rear uni spat the needle roller bearings out... i was then driving on metal to metal... not a good thing... i never picked it until i was in lowrange giving it curry, i could then hear it and feel it in the drive line.... so when it failed i dont know... could have been 2000km earlier....
Well i limped it to Arkaroola and greased it... not that that did anything.. just bought me time... i then found a bloke called Irving in Blinman who had a new one in his shed, he is not a mechanic, just has a passion for Landrovers... i bought it off him and got to camp and fitted it..... pulling it apart... 2-3 hours... fitting it... 20 mins... alot of smashing and cold chisel and file work to get it out...

The total damage to the car over the trip was as follows...
If it can rattle loose.. it did..... if it moves.... it wore..... if it was not strapped down.. it tried jumping off....
Rear main seal developed a leak... good one as well..... 500ml every 1000km.... rear Koni Shocks are now flogged out....
And it developed a small water leak on a hose somewhere..... proberly the only on i never replaced...

Over all the little old Landrover V8 County 110 did great....
The run from Innaminka to Arkaroola was the test on economy... 22l/100 so the jerry cans were used to get me there.
I averaged about 28l/100 over the whole trip and i calculated that i used about 1400litres of fuel.... and at $1.50-$2.00 a litre..... YEASH.....

But i did get comments on how good it sounds.... Even Chicks told me it sounded great.... it cleans the wax from your ears at 4000rpm....

i'll post the full trip report when i complete it on the Land Rover forum...
