Hi All,
Have trip to Karijini planned for next week. A group of four families travelling from
Perth with overnighter in
Kalbarri, 4 nights at
Coral Bay and then 5 nights in Karijini. We'd love suggestions about day trips we can do from
Coral Bay. None of us are in the position to spend $$ on organised tours/outings so
places we can investigate by ourselves would be great. Already had suggestion about
Turquoise Bay as a must for snorkelling with kiddies (9 of them aged between 4-11). We plan to drive up to
Exmouth as hubbie has organised a fishing trip with a contact up there. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Have learnt so much from reading these forums. Hope you are having a lovely weekend wherever you may be!

Personally didnt think much of
Coral Bay.
No trips to do there except down to
the beach at 3 30 to feed the fish.
I would overnight or have 2 nights there and extend at
Kalbarri
Lovely trip along the cliffs watching the whales and the National
park walks are magnificent.
The gorges and the natural window are great and only costs $10 a car for a day.
We would have stayed a week there just relaxing but had onward bookings.
If we had known wouldnt have even gone to
Coral Bay as you can swim and
snorkel at
Exmouth.
You also cant drink the
water on sites there so have to use your own.
Just my opinion but really think
Kalbarri leaves it for dead.

I would miss
Coral Bay all together. Better off going up to
Exmouth. Great snorkeling, great coastline, terrific Gorge walks, good fishing from the beach/rocks.

Yes I completely agree! Or I guess you could drive in there for lunch just to say you saw it.
Exmouth is sooooooooooooo much better. But either way, have a great trip.

Do the drive along the coast from
Coral Bay -
Exmouth, stopping in at all the nice bays along the way, including
Turquoise Bay, and returning to
Coral Bay on the Bitumen. The other 3 days spend relaxing on
the beach without the need to drive anywhere -
the beach is one of the best you will ever find for little kids, the snorkling off
the beach is good for the kids to experience a large variety of fish life, and there are fresh
water drinking taps for drinking....
Just relax there - especially with that number of kids - the
bakery is excellent, and the fish and chips are good too...(the beer is reasonably cheap too)!!

Hubby and I love
Coral Bay, have been going up there since 1971, (It's sure changed since then) spent our honeymoon there. We don't go on any guided tours either, there are plenty of 4wd tracks to traverse, as mentioned in previous post a must do is the coast up to
Exmouth but be sure to check the tide for crossing Yardie
Creek.
The beach for the kids is fantastic and if you like walking take a stroll along the coast line. Ditto about the baker
shop there. The down side would be the wind, sometimes it can be a bit of a pain. Definitely better than
Exmouth in my opinion but then everybody is different, we like the quieter spots.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Deanna

Well I couldnt describe
Coral Bay as a Quiet place any more.
Full to the brim in the van parks kids and
young people everywhere
Only a tiny place and traffic full.
Lack of shops and most other things.
Give it a miss and go to
Exmouth or even
Denham which is the nicest of all the
small West coast towns ,with its lovely scenery The
Peron Cape, great fishing
and you can drink the
water.

Hi Graham H, "
well I couldn't describe
Coral Bay as a quiet place any more"
Sorry Graham, I didn't explain myself properly, I couldn't agree with you more,
Coral Bay, as much as we love it, certainly is not the quiet spot it once was but it still has a lot going for it. The first time we went there all that was there was the old motel, service station and
shop plus the caravan
park with two caravans in it (us being one, the other a couple from Vic). As I said, everybody is different, We know a lot of people that like
Exmouth but it has never impressed us at all.
We do like the quiet spots but unfortunately
Coral Bay does not fit into that catagory anymore.
Cheers
Deanna

Thanks so much for all your suggestions. Keep them coming if you have anything you want to add. This is going to be a big adventure. Never camped/camper trailer before. A permanent onsite van at Kingscliff NSW is the closest we've come to
camping! Just hoping that we are all still friends when we get back to
Perth! This time next week we'll be heading to
Kalbarri.

We found it very enjoyable exploring the remains of the old
whaling station at Pt. Edgar north of
Ningaloo. Enjoy your trip, Graham
