Am about to pick up LC 200 and looking to replace the new standard fitment 285/65/17 highway tyres.

I am aware that Cooper have a 285/70/17 - taller tyre and will read 104 kph when should read 100kph and stock available.

Bridgestone have a 285/65/17 [694 ATR] apparently a good tyre, but none in Australia I am told.

Several tyre Dealers have said sorry cant help you with that size.

Seems not much about.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the post as it gives me a chance to contribute when I have been a beneficiary of the forum although I do not think that I can help you with the LC 200 specifically.

Sometime ago I replaced the Dunlop Grandtrecks on my Prado with the Bridgestone D694 on a balance of advice from the forum and my own research.

Where I got about 43,000 Km. out of the 5 Dunlops I have just changed 4 of the D694's after 84,000 K. The fifth tyre is still very good for a spare as it was bought later. I could have got a few more K out of the set but decided to play safe in the snow.

My use is about 70% bitumen and 30% gravel/light off-road/paddocks. I often tow a horse float or a trailer. All tyres have been kept up to 38-40 PSI and rotated regularly. I paid $275 ea for the replacements in Melbourne. Apparently I also got a free flight somewhere as part of a promotion thrown in.

From my limited experience I cannot fault the D694.

Cheers, Peter

Hi. The 17" D694's don't seem to come in a LT form. If they did I would be considering them for my LC100 with 17" rims.

Rod, there are two 275/65X17 D694's on their website.

The ones that have a load rating 118 (1320kg) USED to have LT next to them. That has been removed but they still have a load rating of 1320 kg which seems as good as anything with LT in the description.

I don't know if the removal of LT was accidental or not, but they will be my choice when I need to replace the originals.

cheers

I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy

To all contributors, thanks your advice assists me.
Rod - appreciate support for the 694 and the feedback seems all good for them, unfortunately just not in stock in Australia I have been advised by two separate retailers, unsure on ETA.

Coopers are available but local Dealer offered less than $100 trade on the new standard Dunlops in the knowledge not much out there.

Will look into alternatives but do feel inclined to wait for 694.

Yokohama were supposed to have one for 285/65-17 early august. Not sure if they have arrived yet as haven't checked lately. My brother fitted 265/70-17 coopers, slightly narrower but same as original dia. He has done 4000k from south aust up the centre towing a 3.5t van with no issues so far. He can't feel any difference with the narrower width.I think the 285/70 read slower.ie,100k actual reads less on the speedo. Possibly around 96kph. Regards, Bob.

Bob you state that you are aware that Cooper have a 285/70/17 - taller tyre and will read 104 kph when should read 100kph and stock available.

I have these tyres fitted on my 200 (have done 30,000km on them including a trip to the Cape and all around NT - and no punctures) but the speedo actually now reads EXACTLY right when compared to GPS speed. Typically the speedos in modern cars overread slightly and mine (and several others) experience is that this size tyre actually corrects speedo error.

As also suggested, there is a heap of discussion about all this on the LCOOL forum.

Cheers
