Hi guys I have an intermittant Engine Light the keeps coming on, every time it is booked in it seems to stop, and a week later it comes back on again and the merry go round continues. Its Really Starting to get to me I dont think it is any thing serious as I have not lost any power and the car runs like a dream. I have heard that there is a certain plug that you can jump in the diagnostics box and it will tell you the fault code by flashing the check engine light is this just a rumour or can it be done because the next time it comes on I would like to pull over and check it. I know it wont fix the problem but after cleaning and checking every terminal I could find it should send me in the right direction.

Have you had a flat battery? On the Jeep the engine light will come on if the battery has been flat - my husband then has to connect it to a device he has that resets it.

Hi. Once the light comes on a fault code is logged in the computer and will stay there unless the computer power is disconnected. Most Auto Electricians and a lot of Mechanics will have a "Scan" tool that can be plugged into the diagnostics link to decifer the code/s. Bob.

Have you checked & cleaned the plug on the back of the alternator?

I'll take pity on you Heres what to do
Ign off Trans in P or N
Turn IGN on but DO NOT START ENGINE
Jump pin 13 TC and pin 4 GC on the DLC connector under dash beside steering column
codes will flash on the engine check light.
Then post what it does and I will read them off chart in Gregorys Manual
To cancel code remove the ECD fuse from panel in engine bay for over 60 secs
The flashes start 4.5 sec after shorting the terminals and are on and off for .5 sec then gap of 2.5 sec for second part of code
