When I was away last year I left the 5th Wheeler fridge door ajar and turned off. When I got home there was a lot of mould in the fridge, cleaned it out with hot
water and detergent.
It is OK as long as the fridge is running, however if the temp, is not low enough or if the fridge is not running for a short period the mould reappears.
Does anyone know of an environmentally friendly way of killing the mould?.
Cheers
Russ

Gooday,
Clean with some white vinegar in warm
water (not the apple cider kind), thoroughly dry with paper towel. Make sure you clean in and around the seals, as that's where it hides until it gets the chance to regrow. The enzymes in the vinegar should kill it off for you.
After cleaning with vinegar (and drying), use two drops of vanilla essence in warm
water and repeat the process and you shouldn't have a drama after that.
regards,

Hello Russnic, I am not sure about hour "friendly" it is, but I would give it a dose of undiluted bleach. Let it sit for ten or 15 minutes & then rinse it off with some soapy
water. Just take the necessary precautions around fabric etc.
If you are not keen on bleach there are a multitude of mould removers on the
supermarket shelves. Cheers

Removing mould from fridge seals
A very effective yet safe way to remove mould from fridge seals. Mix up some Bi-Carb soda with vanilla essence to a smooth paste. Use a toothbrush to apply and rub gently. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Also works
well on the fridge mouldings.

Thanks
Just the info I needed.
Obviously the mould spores survive and grow when conditions are suitable.
Application of vinegar or bleach must kill the spores
Thanks for the advice.

add my vote to the Bi-Carb soda. Worked for me after being lazy and not emptying my Waeco for a whole week (big lesson learnt, it stank).

I agree with using the bicarb soda, also wipe a bit of vanilla essence over the inside of the fridge to freshen the smell.
