Queensland Motorway Toll system - payment options??

To pay online you need an account

You establish an account by giveing them your credit-card details...

You then agree to the terms, conditions and "charges"???...

without seeing the charges...
or being able to select what those charges are...

As a casual user of the bridge that was as far as i got with thier system...

I am not going to give them my card details and
agree to everything unless i see an amount on the page first

i think that is fair enough, what do other people think????

g day mate.
ok this is the deal for the Queensland tolls. I am one of the toll collectors that got the shove.

if you are a casual user and do not have an interstate tag (all interstate tags can be used through out aust) you can purchase a trip pass through selected agencies and service stations, but be aware it will cost you more than the standard toll fee.
You can use the toll, then have 3 days to contact them to pay. DO NOT leave it up to them to chase you or your first reminder will incure a $7 fee, 2nd $20 and after 30 days a $120 or $140 fine.

As a casual user of the bridge I will say to you what I said to every other customer who asked me what to do when " I only use it twice a year"

get yourself an etag. BUT do no select automatic top up via your credit card or bank account. by doing so everytime your credit balance gets to $15 they will top it up and will always have $15 of your money.
Select manual top up and top it up yourself. It will cost you one dollar to do so but that way you can run your credit to nil.
Minimum $25 to set up an account.

TOLL CHARGES FOR CAR/ CAR WITH TRAILER
gateway bridge $2.95
kuraby plaza $1.97
Stapylton rd $2.10
Logan plaza $1.18

yeah, etag. 14 working days until you're mailed a transponder (if you're lucky). Still waiting 3 weeks plus. Not impressed GOVIA.

friggin hell I ain't even on the toll booth anymore and I am still getting told
''I haven't got my etag yet, they said 14 days"

:) mate they can't keep up with the demand. Stupid people, they put themselves in it!
Still tho, once you got the tag, it is the easiest option.

I think we've become conditioned to expect poor service, you see it daily at the supermarkets, hardware barns, banks, licensing authorities, and that's not good enough. I agree the etag with a blue card manual topup is the best go - unless you want to travel interstate anytime soon.
cheers

Another thing to struggle with as a non-credit card holder. I am a dinosaur who does not even have an EFTPOS card. Use cash for everything. Basically I don't use the toll roads anymore- too hard. I don't understand the concept of givng anyone access to personal bank accounts with direct debits etc and even less so when seeing the details.

So no solutions from me

I also have a heap of trouble booking camp sites at NPs in QLD- I have to visit one of their offices and book on advance. I have to get with the 1900s

Hi Matt

You are not on your own. We work in cash only as my wife gets paid with a cash. She refused to give her work a bank account and the workplace agreement (READ THAT AGAIN) meant they had to then pay her in cash.

For all you dredit card users we save up to $700 per year in fees attached to the cards. So why on earth should we use a credit card.

I prefer that amount in my pocket thanks.

And we do not use tolls (none in Canberra or on the Simpson).

Give me one good reason to go to a city with tolls????

I must say we never had trouble booking any of our trips. You do not need a credit card to do bpay, a direct deposit or use Paypal.

Most of us have a mortgage. All banks offer a package mortgage that includes your credit card with NO fees.

You can also get a VISA debit card that you can use anywhere VISA credit cards are accepted.

No need to stick your head in the sand. There's heaps of ways to access your money without paying fees, just need to ask..

And its a pleasure not having a mortgage (see I can spell it). It would be stupid to retire if we did have amortgage. How could you pay one off if you did not have an income. Beats me how one would put his house at risk doing that.

Thus no need for a card. My wife has one in the back of her purse but note that its a debit card and only for an emergency like when we bought the Toyata. But we normally don't use it.

We are not heads in the sand. We are just happy doing things our way. Its amusing when you pay cash for bigger items though. You should see the expressions and then the discounts are excellent as well. Even got $4K off the car. No we didn't have that in the hand. We had already transferred it to the card at home.

We're happy.

I would only use the toll two or three times a year, so just got the etag, and put the minumum amount of $25 on it. The etag itself is free. So I would not say that I have given them an open cheque book.
Ok, I am out of pocket $25 up front but find the convinience of being able to drive through worth it.

Hi all

I live in Nth Qld and haven't driven to Brisbane or further south in years. I would not even know where the toll roads are so how am I going to get on when I go to the big smoke. If you have to pay upfront and don't use it all will they close the account and refund any monies or will there be a closing of account fee and you get stung again ?????????

just get yourself an etag now known as a govia tag. Minimum $25 to set it up that tag costs you nothing. Read what I wrote further up about how it works.
Your credit does not expire.

The wife and I bought an e-tag from GoVia in Qld to travel on NSW toll roads when we visit the sons and daughters in Sydnee
Compared to the NSW Tollways tags, Go Via is the cheapest and best, in Sydees tolls some you have to pay upfront $40 plus admin fees plus a top up

Beats me why anyone would go somewhere else, all up, $25 will last long time, no expiry date

go viavideo accounts are limited to 30 days...

for me the go viatag are just another profitable device to worry/loose/damage/getborrowed or gets wet and costs another 40 or whatver dollars plus the fuss to sort....

just another little whack and trap i reckon...

All I know is that lots of NSW/sydney people use the QLd tags as they are the best deal about.

We just visited Brisvegas a few weekends ago for a wedding. We got a hire car at the airport and headed to the Redland Bay area. The traffic getting out of the airport was unbelievable due to roadworks and then it was onto the gateway.

Not being to familiar with it all I ended up going over the Gateway bridge and incurring a toll. Fair enough but for it was the inconvenience of the payment options for the casual user that got me a bit riled.

I had to spend around an hour of my time all up finding out how to pay the toll and ended up using a friends internet to register for the viavideo thing for the duration of the trip.

I object to having to jump through hoops to pay a simple $3 charge as a casual user. It all just seems so petty when I have more important things to do like enjoy my trip to Qld and spend a few tourist dollars. After you have figured out what needs to be done it probably is pretty simple but boy it does waste more time over the ability to just dump some coins in a bucket at the booth and be done with it! Obviously this benefits the people doing the charging as they are not paying for YOUR time that they waste while saving on collectors like Jo.

Ahh I love South Australia where there are NO toll roads and not likely to be for the next 20 years or more as it would be electoral poison for the Govt that tried it.

Cheers
Muddy
