G'day
We are planning to travel north towing the van via the
Gateway bridge and motorway this Sunday so as to avoid the usual Monday morning chaos.
But we now find out the Bridge to Bridge run is on that day and the bridge is down to one lane in each direction
Has anyone travelled via that way on years past when this event is on and if so how bad was the traffic?
Not as bad or worse than a typical Monday ?
I rung the events office and asked and they were NOT at all helpful
And as the event finishes at the Ekka grounds going via the city may
well be a worse option

Go straight up no. 1, a few hundred meters past the city is the turn off for the ICB, its an up-ramp on the right hand side of the highway before it turns into Coronation Drive, get on to that and stay on it all the way to No. 1 again, no lights, no runners, probably a little traffic due to the bridge closure but I wouldn't expect anything too serious. And no tolls.
So you are not actually going, literally, through the city this way.

Think it will only be closed in the morning. If you can wait till after lunch you'll be OK. If not, traffic does get through and the earlier you go the better.
Other options would be either Kelvin Grove Rd up through Stafford or Lutwyche/Gympie Rd, the old highway, both accessed via Hale St.

Its a sunday so just go straight up the gateway . FYI the gateway arterial road southbound before the bridge is only one lane due to roadworks and on a sunday its fine .

if your worried about the gateway (no idea what it will be like myself) then do as said earlier and go along the freeway to the city. take the ICB and go past Lang
Park (that's right i call it Lang
Park not bloody Suncorp Stadium). just as you go past the RBH on your lefthand side you'll go through a tunnel under the RNA / EKKA site, take the next exit (so make sure your in the left lane), follow left around to traffic lights and turn right onto i think it's called
Bowen Bridge Rd. follow this rd and don't turn off anywhere and you'll end up on the highway running north. lots of traffic lights on this rd unfortunately and stick to the speed limit, cops love to radar it on a sunday morning, especially up near Toombul.
