Folks,

Does anyone know the location of Policemans Gap (South Coast NSW)??

We know it's "South of Milton" and "Inland from Ulladulla" but cannot seem to locate it's exact position.

A grid reference or GPs co-ordinates would be handy?

That link is to the LROC outing back in 1973, and in one pic they say that all 4wd owners are welcome in the club!!!!!!!!!! Now they ask you to leave if you sell your LR, what a turn around!!!!!

The photos in that link was what gave me the two clues in the original posting IE "South of Milton and Inland from Ulladulla" if you look at the photo in the posting from the top you will see Pigeonhouse on the right and The Castle on the left so its south of those two, I have searched the NSW Topo's ( 1:25000) for the area and no mention, I have contacted the Milton Historical Society as the name sounds historical rather than geograpical (no response yet). NSW parks have NFI.

So this posting was the next step in my research!!

I looked at that photo also and think it is most likely taken from the Mogood trig on cattlemans track.
We were at Yadboro Australia day W/E and went up the trig to look at the bushfire on western distributer.
I was also looking at Gap road on google maps today. it could be the one.
I would be more interested in the Bridle fire trail at the north end of the Gap road (there is an indistict track up thru the cliffs at one place which could hold a "Pass ")and whether you gan get tru to pigeon House fire trail to the north of Pigeon House mtn. Road shows up well in topo view its just if there are locked gates or not.
also interested to see the "defence" boundary covering swags of country north of PH mountain and the castle
hope you track policemans gap down
cheers

Howard,

Yes I saw Bridle Fire Trail and after the intersection with Gap Road it goes up to a place called (on the map) Longfella Pass at which point it appears to become a walking trail, however the map I am looking at is about 20 years old so these may all be closed by now.

In the absence of other clues these three tracks look like the best place to start the search.

Gazza,
Many years ago I knew a logger from Milton and I vaguely remember him talking about areas around Pigeon House mtn. including a place called Policeman's Gap.
In those days Milton was the centre of the logging industry that operated in the Bundawang Ranges, that area is now Bundawang National PK and all the old log roads are long closed.

About as near as can get to it now is Yadboro Flats 35-19.896 S 150-13.235 E
Anything else will be on foot and all the old roads have long since been re-vegetated and grown over.

I reiterate this is from memory of the early 1970s I am not sure of the exactness of my memory that far back, even then it was 2nd hand info from an old logger.

If you are working from info in the LROC pix gallery, different clubs sometimes have different names for the same location, meaning that, what they called Policeman's gap, may not have been exactly that. Just a thought.
Colin.

On Patrol,

Thx for the clues because the Yarboro Flats area seems about right given the picture from the summit with Pigeonhouse to the right and The Castle to the left. I'll go back to the Topo maps for another look as most of them have'nt been redrawn since the seventy's and show the old roads.

On Patrol,

I just found a "Gap Road" south of Yarboro Flats and equidistant between Pideonhouse and The Castle. Don't know if it's open though, will have to go for a look see!

Sothern end of the track is at 247571E 6083562N (GDA94)

Thanks

Gazza,

When you get it please add it to the places system, we have done a heap of work in this system of late (ie every day) so it would be god if you could share the results of your research.

Shouldn't this be moderated on religious grounds? Making it a god would be sacrilegious.
Or maybe an edit system would help.
Sorry , couldn't help myself, but that's what happens when you get moderated.
Should put LOL so everyone knows I'm joking?
Cheers

Guys,

I won't post it on places until I'm confident Ive found it because bad information is worse than none and once posted it will be taken as accurate.
