I've sent off for quote online about 10 mins ago to Beaudesert myself.

I look forward to there feedback.

What type of performance benifits did you get....I was hoping to get the motor spinning more freely with less effort on the throttle.

What size did go for Paul? or is the one size recommended...

Cheers

Fisho...Mine's a Nov 02...but I call it an 03 to save confusion..it's the update model with the 5sp auto box etc.

Mark...can do re the freight. Let's see what the prices are first and go from there....I was considering the HO kit if it's not much extra $$$$....are you fitting your own or do you a fitter in mind?

Sorry Andrew, what is the "HO kit"...... Taipan do a similar system and theirs was $1600 fitted here in WA by a 4wd outlet. I had a chat to the guy at Grapnel Exhaust in Balcatta today and he can do a 3" mandrel bend for $950. He said that the dump pipe on the Toyota is 3" anyway so he didn't include that. If I got the Beaudesert system I would get a fitter to put it on the troopy as my mechanical skills are limited (and that is being kind). As to who, I am not sure at this stage and I will see what Beaudesert come back with. I must admit I was impressed with the guy at Grapnel as he seemed to know what he was talking about.

Cheers

Ive been a customer of Grapnels in Balcatta since 1984 and have always had excellant service and fair prices.
It changed hands when the old fellow retired about 10 years ago but one of his employess took it over and continued the good work.
They are quite experienced and willing to do custom work, just look at the hot rod pics on their wall

The HO kit is a total 'exhaust, D'tronic module and larger intercooler' replaced as a package.

Just google 'Safari HO' or go here or cut and paste this link

http://www.safarisnorkel.com/turbo/hdj100/sc1hdfte.htm

Taipan rings a bell and they may supply the exhaust in the package, but i'll stand corrected. Apparently an awesome bit of kit from those who have them. On the downside they're about $3900ish fitted.

Funny you mention Grapnel mufflers...I'm an old Balcatta boy and used them myself years ago, even before they moved to their current premises.

If they do a mandrel bent job...then I wonder why we would bother getting one from over East??? cost I guess but I doubt there will be too much difference..probably a little more even!

We can always talk to the guys a Grapnel with some good 'learnered' advice from the forum and see what deal we can get for 2........

Hi Andrew, I received the quote today from Beaudesert, which was $960.00 plus $25 packing and freight which I would guess at $150-$200 from Qld. I will give the guy that Flywest has suggested a ring but at this stage I will go with the Grapnel outlet.

Regards

I got the same quote....interesting what they say about the dump pipe...I think you said Grapnels mentioned there was no need to upgrade 3 1/2 inch but Beaudesert say it's a must. I'll talk to Grapnels as well. Do you want to try and work out a double deal??

Hi Andrew, Spoke to the guy that Flywest suggested and his price was $950 fitted and that is with a 3" dump pipe as well which as has been mentioned has a larger bore. To have a "hiflow" cat fitted is an additional $300. I am going to put an EGT gauge on as well and the dump pipe has the fitting already installed. The exhaust is manufactured by Mercury in Aust. I think I will go with him as the larger dump pipe (internal) seems the way to go.

Cheers

I'm getting confused with what's 3" and what's 3.5"

Did this guy explain what they are talking about in this regard. I think you mentioned that Grapnels recon we already had a 3" and didn't need to replace it. Another member mentioned the 3.5" was a must and was fitted to his car.

Now we're talking about a 3" that has a larger internal????? I'm confused.

Are you going to get the bigger cat converter. I guess it's a must to get the full effect of the system.....

It is a bit confusing, but the way I understand it is with the dump pipe it may not be 3" all the way through but the after market ones are. The cat converter being hi flow is less restrictive so that is a good thing. The guy at Grapnel makes up his own systems and doesn't use the after market ones. If I ask him what the additional cost of a 3" (all the way through) dump pipe is it will probably be a additional $100 or so at a guess. The fact that Flywest's guy fits a system that has the outlet for the EGT already is something that I like. I haven't asked about the 3.5" dump pipe as Beaudesert never mentioned that in their quote to me . I will get some more info from Mercury Exhaust head office in Qld and work from there. It will be easier to ring them.

Cheers

Get a custom one bent up specifically from Mettams Mufflers in Gt Eastern Hwy.

Belmont - Unit 4/135 Great Eastern Highway Belmont, 9479

# Tel: (08)9479 4567
# Email: info@mettamsmufflers.com.au

Kevs a nice guy who does good work for a reasonable price - you might be surprised compared to one of the "kits".

When i was having problems bending up some 50 mm pipe for our wheel carrier project Kev helped us out with mandrel bending our pipes to the exact shape for $10 bucks.

Guys like that who go out of their way, deserve our patronage IMHO.

He will get the planned 3 inch exhaust upgrade work from us - no question.

Cheers

I have a 3"mandrel bent exhaust with a 3 1/2"dump pipe on it with a Dtronic chip.
Went from low 140hp at wheels to 165.2.

Exhaust cost $1000 fitted in Qld.

Dynos were $100

Chip was $950 new on Ebay

Runs better picks up quicker and doesnt blow smoke if you boot it hard like it did before chip fitted

The bigger dump pipe is far better than the standard one has much larger bore right through it apart from the half inch difference.
