Just received this from 4wd Victoria.
I would suggest that it may be of interest to most who frequent this
forum given previous posts on this issue and I would submit that they also demonstrate that our various 4wd Associations are on the job
Cheers
Dear Club Members
Subject line VSB14 - 4X4 Vehicle modifications
VicRoads and other Government road agencies around the country have been working to have a common set of rules for vehicle modifications. These rules in their present draft will mean that all 4WD vehicles with a greater than 2 inch lift will require a engineering certificate. Lift includes body,
suspension and tyres. We do not support the present position and seek your feedback. Many of our members have vehicle mods and these changes to the rules which have no basis in fact or science will limit our members capacity to improve the ride of their vehicle without incurring considerable cost.
Your Association has met with VicRoads and we are presently preparing our submission on the issue. The NSW & ACT FWD Association have also been active after the NSW Minister for Roads said that all people who drove a modified vehicle were hoons. Fortunately there was such an outcry that he has withdrawn the comment and agreed to deal with industry.
The Australian Aftermarket Accessory Association AAAA together with VACC and our Association have a working group. Scientific tests have been carried out which have shown that correctly modified vehicles have better ride characteristics than standard vehicles. Something most of us already know,
We are doing a survey of members and we seek your support. Please complete the survey.
I urge you to support us in this request for information. The link to the survey is

Thank you

Hi John.
Do you know if
membership of ExplorOz constitutes
membership of a 4WD club for the purposes of this survey?

Hi George
I would suggest that you just say "Non Member" or "No Affiliation" to that question, those form other states can also list their respective state.
I guess the main thing is to gather as much info as possible from 4w drivers as a whole and they will be able to summarise the stats to support the argument as they see fit.
The request was distributed via the respective 4w drive clubs in Vic, (Thats how I got it) I don't know if other states are doing the same or not??
You could also contact 4wd Vic direct via the web link I provided and ask the question if you wanted.

Good to see Richard.
I wonder if they will use the same survey form as it has the ability for entry of other states and then pool the results state by state and support the breakdown with a national figure??

I have to have a wry smile and a chuckle when people or organisations refer to " Engineers Report " Precisely what kind of engineer and what degrees does he ( I assume that the "engineer" is a male ?? ) have?? . What constitutes an engineer ?????. Someone who has graduated as a motor mechanic and gone to work for a government department in the motor vehicle section and then classifies himself as an engineer. Most of them that I have had dealings with in my long life time, no sweet sod all about the workings of a motor vehicle. All largely pen pushers and paper shufflers.

" Engineers Report " refers to the reports from engineering signatories, who have been OK'ed by VicRoads, RTA etc to
sign off on modifications.
Not every tom, dick and harry engineer is automatically a signatory.
Or were you taking the bleep ?

Re Q11 11. What increase in height do your tyres provide (half the increased diameter)? - I am missing something, because I have no increase for tyres and there is no option for that???
