Hi,
Having just returned from a trip to Innamincka and Coongie Lakes (fantastic destinations btw), we realised the dash in the Patrol had loosened a bit with all the vibrations. We have the safety pack option, ie. a passenger side airbag. Does anyone know if I can remove the dash, tighten it all up, then replace it, or is this something I should leave to the 'experts'?

My passanger airbags jumps up and down also, I think is normal, it probably is bad design or some padding has moved.. If you hold you hand firmly on the airbag cover, the noise stops.. not a great job for the passenger though!! Michael

G'day Michael,
The airbag cover seems fine. This is more about the whole dash. There is an associated squeaking which accompanies the loose dash, which stops when pushing down on the dash near the immobiliser light. We've also found that the CD player is also now tempermental, skipping a lot through the few CDs it now plays.

Most dashes are glued in these days. My main problem is the air bag hits the underside of the passenger cover, drives us nuts, a small load on the cover an it stops.. Hope you find the problem easily. Michael

I had a manual for mine when I had it and think there was a picture of the dash fixing points in it.

Perhaps you could splash out and buy one might need it for more than that

LOL

Cheers

My GU2003 had a rattly passenger side airbag. I complained and it was repacked by the dealer twice but still made a noise on corrugations. I could feel the SRS moving under the cover. Eventually it was replaced under warranty. Now it just makes little squeaks. The service manager said that even though it appeared that a bit of foam packing would fix the problem, they were not willing to modify the standard installation due to legal reasons. Any malfunction of the device would point to their modification. I think different models are affected in different ways after hammering over those rough roads.
I was told that it is not an area for the average home mechanic/owner to work on.

I bought a manual for the Patrol this morning, and eagerly flipped to the section on removing and installing the dash. OMG! I've pulled dashboards from old Hiluxes and Kingswoods, but this is a whole different universe. Not to mention the specialised tools required (well, specialised for me anyway).

There is no evidence of the squeak on most sealed roads, so we're considering living with that one. We'll also see how well the CD player behaves, and consider replacing it later (I've got the book now, so should be easy, right?).

Thanks all for your replies.
