When we left "Damn That Exploroz Trader Section - Part 2", 9 pages of threads ago...
We were at the point that the left hand carrier had to be modified to remove 70 mm from its swing radius so that the tyre would move to the left - to leave enough room in the center for a matching RH carrier to not have it's tyre overlap the LH one!
Well the pipes for the RH carrier came back all bent to the correct angles - from the exhaust guy (Thanks Kev at Mettams Mufflers In Gt Eastern Highway Near Burswood).
$10 Kev asked seemed a bit to cheap for the value of the work to us, so $15 and a bottle of Jack Daniels later - to say "thanks", saw us back at the garage and welding / cutting again!
And
When you compare the now shortened LH original - to our effort to mock up a mirror image RH one...
It looks like we are on the right track!
Now the carriers are out having the flat plate folded & welded to match the originals, and a plate box welded up to insert between the chassis rails to hold snig chain, Rated shackles, snatch blocks and snatch straps etc...
Once they come back - its time to finish up with some paint and fitting to the vehicle.
Numba 1 son is keen on hammertex black....me - I'd have preferred to color key the rear bar & carriers to the vehicles body color,
or
have it all chromed. ;o)
Looks like numba 1 son will win out on this one & it will be hammertex Black.
More when its done in a week or so time.
Chhers

Thanks Richard,
Yes we are getting there, but more slowly than we would like. Time to save up the requisite funds, for more visits to Bunnings, for the paint etc comes into it.
Having to afford the usual/ inevitable vehicle registration and insurance bills etc sometimes puts a dent in the progress factor.
Cheers

Richard
Actually set it up today for a photo session to get some shots for selling it all (not the boat ;-) ). Check my profile - $28K.
After rebuilding my ZD30 I've decided to trade it in on a D-MAX. 4 weeks to delivery. Planning on towing
Kimberley Kamper to
St George then on to
Brisbane to do the swap. OR if it is ready earlier, to
Brisbane the
St George with brand new D-MAX. hehehehehe. (little kid eh?)

Jeez FW,
You must be busy on this ............... only 12 sentences in your post ....... lol
other than that, the work you have done looks to be of a very high standard,
well done. I would like to be able to do work like that too ......... I have to learn how to weld first .......... and measure accurately ............. and ......
Well done!!
Cheers,
Wayne & Sally.

I did a TAFE course a few years ago to get enough "skill" (and I use the word very loosely) to use a welder.
I bought an inverter welder off ebay for a couple of hundred bucks (it's about the size and weight of a shoe box) and now I can join 2 bits of steel together with a bit of confidence.
The best accessory I have for my welder is ................. the 4" Makita angle grinder with flapper disk fitted.........hahahahahaha. It lets me clean up all the spoggy chit and the finished job almost looks good (
well, to me it does anyway).
Cheers

Roachie - you just described my technique exactly!
Self taught - the best accessory? the auto darkening welding helmet - I need both hands to hold the rod handle coz for the life a me I cant resist the urge to "jump" and pull away when the arc strikes, i get the "start stop start stops".
With 2 hands I can sorta almost hold it there, once I get started I'm fine.
(Try telling my missus that!). ;o)
Cheers
