Found a Photo of a old aunts Straight eight Buick, that they used as a daily runner from Albert st
Guildford to Parramatta NSW) for thirty eight years!!
As a kid i remember her visiting us when we lived at the end of a dirt track in a little place called missabotti nth of Bowraville East coast NSW. The thing is there was a
creek crossing and a steep incline on the departure side just before our property, and i remember
well the old man helping out with the old draught horse and chain to the few neighbours that encounted problems. His Sister!! No Way that bloody buick used to march straight thru and up the other side no probs, her roaring with laughter . So makes me think power still dominates!!...LOL.
Cheers Axle.

Hi Axle
I was in one about 1964 driving up a country road at about 80 when the rear wheel fell off, and it ground down the backing plate something awful , but we managed to get the huge monster going again.
Some things never change !

Axle, you suggesting Nissan drivers should expect to be associated with episodes like that?

I rode in one just after the war (or it seems that long ago :-o) - what a huge engine - looked like it belonged in a ship - so much torque that my uncle hardly ever seemed to change gears - as I recall, you just turned the key but then pushed a button on the floor with your foot to start it. And you could walk up the back of the car and onto the roof without the metal caving in too - strong as, in all respects.

In the back of my memory I have this picture of a Buick Straight 8 with a florin (current equivalent in size, 20 cent coin) balanced on edge on the rocker cover of the straight 8 engine while the engine was idling.
It was a party trick to show how smoooooooooth that motor was.
Years ago my old man had a 37 Buick and he could do that with the florin, beautiful motor for it's time.
Last of the Straight 8 Buicks was somewhere about 1949/50 after which time they all went to inline 6's and V8's.
Just recalling a little bit of trivia.
Disco.
