Quite a thread on the caravaners
forum about this and apparently an explanation on screen somewhere hard to find.
See here:

Basically I believe you will only get the ABC version pertinent to the State where you first registered your card.
As a few people on the other
Forum have said, it makes getting a shonky card just about essential, and it's the people who don't want you to get one that are driving you towards that decision.

IIRC you have to send the an email detailing your planned trip and dates. They then "turn on" the satellite for the other channels.
Well, that's what I've had to do in the past.

Here is a link to see what is still available via Optus Satellite (Nothing changed)
Channels
Note the '*' on some viewing areas. As said if you tell Optus you are travelling (send details) they will turn it on for you.

It seems my decision to NOT buy a cheap STB was warranted.

Not all lower priced ses are "CHEAP" Its just that some others are expensive for what they are.
If you go to www.accessantennas.com.au you can buy a good quality set for a reasonable price. I upgraded the box to a PVR model and am really happy with it All up cost $559.
Has the flat top dish which is easy to lock on.
Cheers

It's all a bit senseless.
Here in WA, if I'm watching ABC 1 on a digital TV, I get the local WA news, but at the same time I can switch to ABC HD and watch the NSW news. All because the ABC doesn't yet broadcast HD from its
Perth studios. I know that's not
Satellite TV but I'm not even paying for it whereas you have to pay for your card, and you get less than me.
Snapper, if I was you I would track down a shonky card and use that. They are forcing people who travel into that decision.
Info on the Caravaners
Forum would be a good start.

Have been in contact with the ABC and this is their advice;
"Viewers who are currently receiving their ABC Television via direct to home Aurora satellite will notice changes to their ABC Television channel options which commenced Tuesday 25th August.
These changes are a result of a court imposed suppression order because of a trial that is currently underway. The advice we have received is that it will be for the duration of the trial.
All satellite viewers will continue to receive the ABC Television channel applicable to their region but will no longer be able to receive television
services from outside their region. These changes will not impact the channels of other broadcasters on the direct to home Aurora satellite system.
If you have technical issues with your satellite delivery, please contact Optus Aurora directly on 1300 301 681.

Interesting and we may get the service back in due course.
regards to all
