Hi All, we are thinking of heading out for a wildflower run, was thinking of going to the Paynes Find area, through to Thunderlarra Station and around. A previous thread hinted at a good showing around Mullewa so was wondering where the best flowers are, we only have a couple of days.

Also what is Thunderlarra Station like and what is the road like into it?

Cheers

Deanna

We went to Mullewa from Geraldton today and there seemed to be plenty.

Went to the flower show and then went down the Mullewa road towards

Morawa, turned off onto Wongoondy rd just before Tardun and saw wreath

flowers on the side of the road just after the Irwin river crossing.

Someone had nicely put stones around one on the r/hand edge of the road..

Also saw some Bird Orchids under a tree going down to the river at Miners at

Coldstream.

As we are from Qld dont know where the other places are sorry.

Was a lovely if cold day anyway Church at Mullewa was magnificent.

Cheers

Hi Graham H Thanks for that information. As a kid my family spent a few years at Mullewa (not my favourite memories) and we attended the school that the church is attached to, yes it is a lovely church, the guy who designed and built it did the Catholic church in Geraldton as well, that one is well worth a look too if you are in that area.

Hope you like our part of the world, WA is a vast state with so much to see from the North to the South. Enjoy the rest of your trip

Cheers

Thanks We have come down from Darwin and love all of WA except the prices.
Denham is our pick so far with Kununurra second.

Waiting for some warm weather to come further south from Geraldton and yes saw the cathedral.

We are headed up to Shark Bay (Denham) in a few weeks, annual holiday with eldest Daughter and family, can't wait to get up there out of this cold down here.

How long are you in the West for?

Cheers

Hi Deanna,
Last time we were up that way the Tourist Information Centre at Dalwallinu was a very good source of information on the best places to see the wild flowers, a board listed the locations of the wreath flowers, and would be worth a call.

While not in answer to your question, you have to spend beer time at the Payne’s Find pub and visit the gold battery and museum, very worthwhile.

Q. what is Thunderlarra Station like and what is the road like into it?
Sorry, we have not been there, so no help at all.

Enjoy your trip.

Cheers,
Wayne & Sally.

Hi Wayne & Sally, thanks for your info, sounds like that would be a good place to call into on the way up to Paynes Find. I hadn't heard of Thunderlarra Station myself, it was mentioned to me by friends who we are going with so thought I would just throw it out on here in case someone has been there.

Cheers

Ask the local apiarists (Bee Keepers), wherever they have their hives will be where the flowers are thickest!

Hi Flywest, good point, had not thought of that. There are plenty of bees around this year, our back yard is full of them as all the native shrubs that we have in the garden are blooming.

Hi get outmore, thanks for that info, great report and definitely a good show of flowers. We are planning to go in a couple of weeks so we're hoping that they are well and truly out by then.

Cheers
