Pistol,
For a comprehensive guide to these and other questions check out "Canning Stock Route" by Ronelle & Eric Gard. The 3rd edition is the latest. Apparently there is a 4th in the works but no word yet re publication dates.
Mate not sure what stage your planning is at and this will affect the advise others can give. Is this the very first step? Are you traveling alone, with mates or thinking of joining a tag along. Where do you plan to start & finish, which direction of travel, any side trips (eg Balgo) etc etc.
A quick search on this
forum should show up a bunch of threads on this topic.
The Hema great desert map series have coverage of the CSR and that would also be a good start to get a sense of fuel requirements.
Good luck!
Ben

Pistol as a first step go to the Treks section & compare your intended route with others driving similar vehicles. This will give you a guide to fuel usage & how much you should carry. A fuel drop is not required if you have sufficient range to get to Kunawarrijtji although in the past I have organized a drum to share amoungst my convoy at
well 23 thereby reducing the maximum amount required to be carried overall.
As suggested buy the Canning book. Permits are available here.

Good luck with your trip.
