I have posted a previous post regarding awnings but I would like to ask one more [for now] awning question.
I have recently bought a new Jayco Dove. I previously had a Jayco Swan.
My question is - on the Swan, we had a canvas awning. I am looking at something easier to handle and erect IF the alternative is as good.
How do the Carefree, Fiamma and Aussie Traveller awnings compare to a canvas awning in terms of keeping out the heat?
Thank you.

Mate i am not sure but can tell you this,While away late last year i was camped at a
camp site where a guy had The Aussie Traveller type Awning,He went into town for half an hour and while away a bloody big gust blew threw and lifted up the awning and snapped the bracket at the van,God knows what further damage would hav been caused by it dangling around had we not folded it all back in for him till he got back..Just something to think about if you go this way...

All of the rollout awnings should be pegged or tied down for just that reason.
Seen a few of all the different types (hard arms off the side of the van & bag type on 4wd's) that have been broken after a gust of wind.

Thanks, Peter for your warning. Very timely, since we're off in three weeks, equipped with a vehicle-attached awning.

Gary,
I have a Bushtracker caravan which had an Aussie Traveller awning when I bought it.
I took it off, because it was such a pain in the bum to erect and take down. I had a Dometic awning installed, as have had quite a few other Bushtracker owners. I am really happy with it .
Willie.
PS. I always peg it down with huge pegs.

Gidday
I’ve only had experience with two awnings. A Polaris canvas awning attached to the car, and Fiamma fitted to the camper van (apart from tarps).
Starting with the former, it’s been very good but as an often solo traveller, it can be a little difficult to set up or pack on a windy day. If there are two of you, then no problems.
The first Fiamma I purchased was a bit flimsy and fussy to crank out. Since then they’re a lot more robust and easier to use. My remaining criticism of the unit is the lack of tie down points on the top of the vertical arms. Work in progress!
I’d replace the Polaris on the car, with the Fiamma for no other reason than the ease of use with its simple wind out system.
Which is stronger than the other is irrelevant to me, because neither is left set up at night or when I leave the
camp site.
Regards
Kim
