Hi we will be travelling back to
Broken Hill to a friends 50th and we are taking our caravan hoping to
camp up a Kitchega National
Park.....My Questions is is there any
water in the lakes at present?
Thanks Andrea

Some at
Copi Hollow but not a lot elsewhere, very little in fact Andrea and it has been that way for some time.
Menindee Lake itself has been dry for 5 or 6 years and it's going to take a lot of
water to fill it up again. We came home through
Broken Hill in late July and bypassed
Menindee on the advice of my best mate who lives on the river at
Menindee.
But don't let that put you off Kinchega NP as there is still some
water flowing in the river.
Enjoy the 50th - Paul

So glad you posted this Andrea11, and for your answer Paul. We are heading to Cameron's Corner in Oct/Nov and we were going to do a side trip into
Menindee for a couple of nights, but with no
water around probably no point. We may have an extra night now at Mungo NP and possibly
White Cliffs on the way back.
Thanks.

Hi,
Now this may be old news but I was there as late as 20th April 2009 and the only show of
water was at Tandure Lake and a little at
Copi Hollow where we camped.
"Dry as" every where else and even if rain has come since it would be minimal.
I did a few drives around Kinchega NP taking pics and saw no
water in
Menindee, Cawndilla and Emu lakes with very low flow in the Darling.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.
Peter

Hi Andrea a couple of our mates got back this morning from
Menindee said there is a fair bit of
water upstream but not sure about downstream. If there is not much
water around Kinchega I would suggest that you check out the main weir because you can drive along the river back toward
Menindee and there are some great
camping spots along there and it does not cost you anything to
camp. good luck and have fun. Haydon & Jude
