To cut a long and unfortunate story short, on Sunday a passenger managed to empty the entire contents of his stomach into the back seat on my 12 month old Prado. We have cleaned it using carpet and upholstery cleaner, we have used eucalyptus and finally Meguires car odour eliminator 3 or 4 times - The bloody thing still stinks.
HELP PLEASE!!!!!!! All suggestions welcome

Cheers

Get it into a detailing shop ASAP, and get the seat shampooed. Only way.

take the seat out ... thats the first thing one does.
then check if anything penetrated into the springs and layers underneath.
you will not get rid of the smell if you only clean the surface.
when I was 20 I purchased a Porsche 911 for $2000 roughly. It was
almost new and low ks. Absolute bargain... but .. somebody died in there
and was laying almost 2 weeks in it before discovered. They could not get
rid of the smell... I cleaned it by taking all seats, carpet, panels etc out and
hat it steam cleaned several times. the car was fumigated with a special
dry cleaning liquid and the lot was left to air out for at least 4 weeks with
regular doses of a strong cologne sprayed into the guts of the doors, dash etc.
It took around 6 months until the smell was kinda neutral. Then I got some
fresh leather bits (cutoffs) from an upholstery shop and stuffed it in every
hole I could find. After another 2 - 3 months the smell was a fresh leathery
kind, which was acceptable. I sold the car and made some good money.

Steam cleaning the inside of the seat and stuff it with fresh leather cutoffs.
good luck

There was a movie like that a few years back (can't remember the name of it - "Dream Machine" or something I think). You're not a piano tuner by any chance are you? :)

That reminds me of when I was on Twins Stn, via Kingoonya about 1960.

*** WARNING!!! SOME PEOPLE MAY FIND THIS OFFENSIVE ***

I was 18 at the time and we were mustering. I was on a Honda 350 bike, came to the top of a crest, stopped, looking for sheep when I spotted a black Hillman Minx "parked" in a cluster of bushes (hidden). I road up to it and peeked in the back window. Scared the $$it out of me. Covered by a blanket was (what I thought to be) a body laying on its back, knees in the air, with legs apart. I skedaddled out of there and managed to find the overseer (Max Scobie) and the Manager of McDouall Peak (Stevo) a short distance away, just about to take off in their vehicles. I screamed out to them to stop. As I road up I said, "I think I've found a dead body". "What do you mean, you either have or you haven't", Stevo said.

We went back to the vehicle and (not for the faint hearted so I'll leave this bit out). We contacted Woomera and they sent a team of Police in a DC3. Better leave this bit out also. Needless to say the remains, after spending nine months in the vehicle, were buried on the spot and the vehicle recovered to Twins Stn where it stayed for over 12 months that I know of.

The smell in that vehicle was unbearable. Even after such a long time.

I still have a couple of photos of the vehicle in my collection somewhere. If any historians out there want further details just PM me.

Try kitty litter. Spilt diesel in a van once was the only thing that worked, costs virtually nothing.

If it was sprayed onto floor carpet pull out your seats and floor lining and water blast the daylights out of it. i did that with my stolen four runner and they came up like new. also clean the floor and put nilodour in car, good for dead possums in the roof of houses.

Cloudy Ammonia breaks down animal protein - let it soak in, then hose/wetvacuum it out.

I left a bucket of prawns in a bucket in my patrol for 4 days, that took at least six months to clear, and that was in a bucket!
It went through all the cloth etc, i tried nil odour, orange stuff, complete waste of time!
I would remove the seat and hose it heavily from the opposite side then leave it in the sun to air for a few days, some nil odour etc may help but if its gone through the material i think thats ur only hope.
You could also unclip the wire clips to remove the seat cover while its out to get even deeper, it is easy to do.
Good luck.

Hi Kevin,
I have this book called 'Speed Cleaning'. In it is says:
"If someone vomits in the car, the best thing to do is to remove the seat from the car, clean it, apply bicarb, dry it in the sun, then vacuum and return it to the car".
The following is also listed for old vomit stains on the carpet:
"How to clean vomit will depend on what's in it. Because the stain has been there for some time, apply glycerine with a cotton ball to the stain. then rot some milk in the sun (times vary) and apply the solids to the stain with a cloth. Leave until almost dry, vacuum and then wash the solids out with a damp cloth. Clean the area with carpet cleaner".
Hope one of the above works......not sure if these methods will get rid of the smell, but bicarb works a treat in the fridge, so maybe you'll need to leave some bicarb in the vehicle for a short time to absorb the smell?
Sort of reminds me of a Seinfeld episode.....
Cheers,
Anna

I can understand the bicarb and nil odour but ....

you just got to wonder who was the first person with the bright idea to try clean up vomit by rotting some milk in the sun :/

Maybe add a pizza and a dozen bottles.
Won't stop the current smell but will at least add a different one.

Had a similar issue in the Paj a few months ago. Daughter was taking some stuff to school for home-ec which included a small bottle of soy sauce. Needless to say the bloody sauce fell over and spilt on the rear seat. Got all over the seat squab and ran down between the seats and into and then through the carpet into the underlay.. :-((

Only thing that had any effect was to take the seat out, strip out the carpet and underlay and have the lot professionally steam cleaned. Even had to dismantle and clean the seat tilt mechanism as that was full of sauce as well. Even now you still get a wiff of sauce if the car's left in the sun for a while.. It's gradually fading away.

We used to carry a bottle of eucalyptus for such occasions Our daughter never seemed to tell us when the great occasion was coming.

My nephew one time chucked from the back seat to the front window.
" Boy that was a good chuck Dad " was his reply as every one was jumping out the doors.
