2 years ago we did that trip via Lyndon, Gifford Ck and Cobra and it was an easy drive along graded roads.

Its just that on google earth and also Exploroz it is about 520 km that takes 13 hours, I just thought the rods would have to be really bad for it to take that long.

We did Mt.
Augusta to
Carnarvon via
Kennedy Range NP a few weeks ago towing a Bushtracker caravan. All brown roads were in excellent condition. Guess the roads from Cobra towards
Exmouth would be in similar conditions. Roads East of Mt. Augustus also in good conditions.

We've just done Meekathara to Mt Augustus to Kennedy Ranges and through to
Carnarvon and all roads in the area were good and really any vehicle including sedans will do them easily.
Various others I spoke to said the roads to the coast in the
Exmouth and Hedland directions were the same.
Just a note on prices, fill up at
Carnarvon if going from there to the Ranges or through to
Mullewa as Gascoyne J. is $1.65 per litre compared to $1.37 and the difference for beer is even worse...... $58 for a block of 30 mid strength compared to 37 bucks!!!
Must be the haulage costs.....
Alan.

Did the trip 3 years ago. I blogged the trek. Here is a link to the start of the trip. The following
blogs cover to Augustus and then
Newman. As outlined above, a clear route on good roads and tracks.
Carnarvon to the Kennedy's

Try the drive over the
Kennedy Range from the west side.
Some very different country.
Some pics below from '06.
