Does any one know what's involved in getting the GVM increased on a GU Patrol in NSW. Is it possible or is it in the to hard basket.
Cheers Dave...

This topic has been discussed at some length on the Patrol4x4 forum.

The general concensus is that it can be increased BUT ONLY before it is registered for the very first time. IE: It has to be a brand new vehicle that has been modified with beefed-up suspension and whatever else the gestarpo requires. Even then, I think the max increase is about 200kg I think.

The only other way is to get an extra (lazy) axle fitted at the rear end and then they can increase the GVM to 4500kg (from 3040kg as standard)...... believe me; I've looked into this in some considerable detail.

Cheers

Thanks Roachie,
I did check on the other forum but the info was a bit old and I was wondering if any thing had changed. Bloody ridiculous really, It just forces a lot of 4bs to run over weight when touring.

I think generally a loaded touring vehicle would be left alone in most circumstances. If you are behaving badly on the road, you may not be so lucky. Michael

Michael, The problem I have is that the car is over weight before it's loaded to go away.

Dave, I take a trailer everywhere i go to avoid the problem.. That may not suit you but it solves the problem and allows me to take all my own water and another 120litres of diesel. Michael

Dave, like Michael, I was going to suggest a trailer. Not everyone's preference I know and no doubt the $$$ come into the decision, but only with the trailer was I able to travel legally, particularly considering roof loads. Obviously other benefits (and disbenefits). Cheers

As mentioned above any increase in GVM is minimal unless you go for another axle. Creative Conversions here in Brissy were quite helpful and informative when I talked at length to them about my options on the same topic. Like you Dave I am at GVM with only me and 1/2 a tank of juice on board so guess where I am when "fully loaded". I have been over a bridge at 4400kg no crap, but I knew I had weight on that time (it was that time that made me look at options to do things a little more safely....for me and everyone else on the road).

Cheers, Trevor.

Trev, That weight's not hard to believe. I weighed mine today and went 3.36t full fuel,no gear only me sitting in it. As I'm looking at changing the suspension because of sagging I thought I might be able to upgrade the GVM but looks like it's in the to hard basket.
