Some Rodeo owning members may be interested to know of a after market heater hose to replace holden hose 8970239741 $ 79.00 with a Mckay heater hose part number CH3594 $35.00. Unfortunately I could not locate any other non genuine hoses to suit the 4hj1 2002 Rodeo TF turbo diesel. I have been told the hose from the bottom radiator hose outlet to the oil cooler which runs down the drivers side of the engine is now no longer available from holden.
I have only changed all cooling hoses as a precautionary measure as i don't see it being practical to change to many of the 9 cooling hoses beside the road.

Hi kwk56pt,
Thanks for
the tip, I'm gonna look at
mine and replace. Your right bout how hard it would be to replace them on the side of the road.
I'm planning a couple of larger trips around Oz in the next few years and i think after 10 years a few would be due.
Regards Mike

On the 2.8 diesel you will find it best to remove the two bolts that hold brackets on that are attached to two metal pipes behind the back of the motor and firewall. Once this is out you will be able to access the oil cooling hoses that meet those pipes behind the firewall. You wont see those bolts but if you feel along the pipes behind the motor you will be able to locate them. There are a couple of holes in the brackets so also feel to make sure the bolts go back in the same holes so that the metal pipes hang in there original position. It will become clearer once you start the job. I think there are 11 cooling hoses on the 2.8 including the
water cooled turbo hoses on the 2.8.
Enjoy

Excluding the top and bottom radiator and the straight 10mm turbo hoses (all easy)...I replaced all the other 7 dedicated heater and oil cooler hoses for under $100 from Veale here in WA.
They had them on catalogue and but not in store but had them there by 9am the next day.
Coventrys, Repco etc didnt want to know me, too hard ..so I only buy from Veale now.

Thanks Matt, yes it was all to hard for coventrys and repco. I had no idea hoses were available from Veale but I will definetly check them out next time I need hoses. Just out of intrest does your rodeo have a bash plate under the sump, it seems they stopped fitting them at some point. My 1994 has one but this 2002 3litre model does not appear to come with one factory fitted nor does there appear to be any after market ones available ?

Nah my 99 Rodeo doesnt have a sump guard...but does have the front deflector plate in front of the diff....more to send stuff under the vehicle that as a dedicated bash plate for the sump.
I have seen a few made with just flat plate to the engine crossmember. They used cardboard to get the basic outline and then cut up the plate.
Looked good. Have a look here in the forums for an idea...
