Witnessed a wheel barrow flying off a trailer on a roundabout to-day, it flipped up side down and sat half way across the outside lane. The driver of the vehicle was none the wiser, or could not have cared less, would think he might have heard the noise or the bloke behind blasting the horn. Just kept going, And guess what?, 6 cars went past and just drove around it!! As i was comming from the other direction and stuck in a line of traffic, i decided to jump out and run up to retrieve the thing. Chucked it in the back of my own ute, so i now have one bruised and battered one handled unit to play with....lol.

So much comes off the back of utes/trailers its a joke,Tie downs (ratchets) are so cheap now it shouldn't happen..

A few years back i had to give way at a roundabout,On my far left a guy towing a trailer was slowing down a bit entering into the round about and low and behold the right wheel on the trailer kept going, over the roundabout and stopped on the other-side,Quite a big roundabout too (Moorooduc Hwy-Racecourse Rd, Mornington)...I don't know why it did not hit anything but all was good..

Whip up a new handle and your laughing !

Hi moderation team.
This example of engineering is fantastic in its simplicity.
The weight carrying wheel shows little sign of use look at the tread left.
Add a new set of shafts, rebuild the body work.
Lots of use in that wheel yet.

Some time back on the Gold Coast, the Transport Dept were pulling up Tradies for having their Ladders tied down with Hockey Straps, it happened soon after a woman was involved in an accident on the M1, a Extension Ladder come off a ute and went through the windscreen, Ratchet Straps are the only way to go.

Cheers

Yeah,

Save the hockey straps for tying your hockey sticks on and use ratchet straps for everything else.

;o)

I must admit I still prefer ropes.

In all the time I have been driving only two things fallen off my trailer, both were secured with ratchet or cam-lock straps.

I now use rope, I know how to tie knots and I can do it quickly and easily, so that is what works for me.

The dirt-bike crew at work use ratchet tie-downs and they seem to work, but for me it's rope.

Now I have a couple of friends who can't tie shoelaces, I have encouraged them to buy a station wagon and keep things inside. No ropes, no straps just a good solid roof.

I scored myself a 26'x16' canvas truck tarp off the back of a truck one day. I was going the other way and by the time I did a u-turn and went chasing the truck he was out of sight and nowhere to be found. I did the usual looking in papers and even visited a few local truck stops to check for lost notice but after all this I figure it's mine. It has come in handy for many a party since then.

Windows up on new cars and you hear bugger all, even sirens are difficult to hear in my opinion.

Cheers, Trevor.

DC,

Hearing test has proved I just have the regular "Male selective hearing" (can't hear the missus nagging LOL!!!) all other audible noises are fine so we must be in a similar boat.

A few years ago i was following a vehicle on the Gateway arterial in afternoon peak hour a couple of klms south of the toll gates & a surfboard fell out of it

It actually ended up lengthways along the centre line in a 80 kph zone (what was the chance of that) & i stopped, dodged the traffic & picked it up

Near the toll gates the guy had realised he had lost it & stopped & i was able to give it back to him but we were both amazed the thing had survived

Regards Don

MANY years ago two mates and I were heading for Broken Hill for the Xmas break. We were only 19 or so. Behind a semi, and when it went over a cattle grid an 18 gal keg fell off and rolled into the grass. Truck did not stop, so we did. What a week we had!!! Wasted most of it but what the heck !!

I have had to only pay for two tie downs, cause they aren't secured properly, or they are left on the side of the trailer/ ute.

See them on the side of the road all the time, cheap as, off the back of the ute/ truck.
